Default J.O. will be on Letterman this Thursday.

Should be interesting, to say the least.

    O'Neal on Letterman

Perhaps it qualifies as another example of the Pacers' changing of the guard.

Jermaine O'Neal will appear on "Late Show with David Letterman" on Thursday, a privilege once reserved for teammate Reggie Miller.

O'Neal will appear on the first of the two Thursday tapings, which will appear later that evening.

He will fly from New York to Los Angeles on a private jet that evening for the All-Star Weekend.

O'Neal joked after Tuesday's game that he was worried he might have to cancel his appearance after taking an elbow in the mouth from Eddy Curry in the second quarter.

O'Neal drew a technical foul after complaining about the lack of a foul call.

"I'll get some treatment on my lip the next 24-48 hours so I can get my lip down," he said.

"It's a chance for me to show another side of me, my ability to hold my side of the conversation with a guy like Letterman. I'm really pumped about that."

O'Neal had no hard feelings toward Curry, a fellow high school-to-NBA player who finished with 23 points on 10-of-17 shots.

    "He's a guy I really like and he's really developing," O'Neal said.

O'Neal, who will start for the Eastern Conference All-Stars, goes into the break having hit just 41 of his past 109 shots.

I remember staying up late when I was a kid in the 80's to watch Letterman (he wasn't on until 12:30 back then, after Johnny Carson). He had a really raw, irreverant, slightly crazy show, and even had a better theme song.

What happened to this guy? He fell into a routine years and years ago, a season or two into the new show.

I haven't been a regular watcher of the Late Show in probably 10 years. Now I just watch the Daily Show .

I still watch him and really like him. I don't know why, but no other late shows appeal to me, even Daily show.
Don't ask Marvin Harrison what he did during the bye week. "Batman never told where the Bat Cave is," he explained.

I still like Letterman but rarely watch him anymore. The Daily show is the best and then of course you must turn to cartoon network for Futurama. After that I am out. Unless of course the Pacers are out west.

Ditto. I also miss "The World's Most Dangerous Band."

Why do the things that connect us slowly pull us apart?
Till we fall away in our own darkness, a stranger to our own hearts
And life itself, rushing over me
Life itself, the wind in black elms,
Life itself in your heart and in your eyes, I can't make it without you

Hmmmmmmm no mention of Dave's NBC morning show that was tried before his Late Night show on NBC?

Or what about Dave on Mary Tyler Moore's variety show?

Network TV has grown stale is the problem.... next thing you know they will try partial nudity at the Super Bowl!

    -Bball

BTW... Didn't Letterman have a comedy special on one of the movie channels (Showtime maybe) WAY back in history ?
Nuntius was right. I was wrong. Frank Vogel has retained his job.

Yeah, but the Max Weinberg seven is becoming more than just Max like it used to be. Jimmy Vivino, La Bamba, and Pender are being involved more often.

I wasn't all that impressed by his show, but Conan hasn't been the same since Andy left...
