INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - A new offensive lineman is joining the Indianapolis Colts, the team announced Wednesday.

Colts officials signed free agent center Samson Satele, who has been in the NFL for five seasons.

He most recently played for the Oakland Raiders, but started his NFL career with the Miami Dolphins. He was a four-year letterwinner and team captain at the University of Hawaii.

“He has all the necessary traits to be one of the top centers in the NFL,” Colts General Manager Ryan Grigson said in a news release.

Satele said he was looking forward to a fresh start with a new team.
And it looks like he was arrested 3 days ago.

Former Oakland Raiders center Samson H. Satele was arrested in his home state of Hawaii early Saturday on disorderly conduct charges, the Honolulu Star-Advertiser reported.

Satele, who is seeking a new team in free agency, was released on $500 bail at 4:50am local time Saturday, less than an hour after being arrested at a shopping complex in the Aiea district of Honolulu, which houses late-night bars and restaurants.

The 27-year-old was set to appear in Honolulu's Ewa District Court on April 18 on account of the petty misdemeanor.

Satele started 15 games for the Raiders last season before becoming a free agent in the off-season.

It was his third year with the team after being traded from the Miami Dolphins, who had drafted him out of the University of Hawaii in 2007.

Grigson is really talking this guy up.

The Indianapolis Colts have signed offensive lineman Samson Satele.

“Samson is an experienced, productive and highly competitive offensive center,” said General Manager Ryan Grigson.” He has all the necessary traits to be one of the top centers in the NFL. He is not only a great player, but a great person and family man as well. We wanted him and we got him. We couldn’t be happier that he will now be a Colt for years to come and help us reach our ultimate goal.”

Satele, 6-3, 300 pounds, will enter his sixth NFL season. He was originally selected by the Miami Dolphins in the second round of the 2007 NFL Draft and played in two seasons (2007-08) with the Dolphins before being traded to the Oakland Raiders (2009-11). He has competed in 78 career games (74 starts) and was a fulltime starter the last two years with the Raiders.

“It’s a brand new team,” said Satele. “In talking with Coach (Pagano) and everyone else, it feels like a family. It’s a fresh, new start for me and a fresh, new team. I can’t wait to get this rolling.”

Satele and the Oakland offensive line paved the way for the Raiders to finish second in the NFL in rushing in 2010 and seventh in the league last season. He blocked for running back Darren McFadden’s first career 1,000-yard season in 2010 as McFadden ranked 12th in the league and 8th in the AFC in the category. In 2007, Satele started all 16 games and became the first rookie in Miami Dolphins history to start every regular season game at center.

A four-year letterwinner at the University of Hawaii, Satele started each of the 53 games he played in during his collegiate career marking a streak that was the longest among active players in college football in 2006. He served as a team captain during his senior season and was named a first team All-Western Athletic Conference selection.

He should be good here, OAK had a really good run offense this season especially, and since we will be doing a lot more of that I think this will be a good signing.

I think we may take a center late, like if the Baylor guy is available in the 5th, but I think we will pass on Knoz if he is available now.

Odd for the Colts to look for new players among those on the police blotter, within the past week even.
The poster "pacertom" since this forum began (and before!). I changed my name here to "Slick Pinkham" in honor of the imaginary player That Bobby "Slick" Leonard picked late in the 1971 ABA draft (true story!)

Look he wasn't drunk or anything.. He was just hot so he took his shirt off and took a swim in the broad ripple canal to cool off.

    Here's his contract info.
    the link

A person with knowledge of the deal says it's a three-year contract worth $10.8 million, with $5 million guaranteed. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because the team did not announce the terms.

Well it looks like Jeff Saturday won't be back. That really sucks.I think he still has something left that he is worth keeping around for another year.

Satele should be good though. I hope that arrest is no big deal. Grigson better not sign a bunch of knuckleheads.

Also it is very interesting how the Colts seem to be beefing up the o-line with running the ball in mind (and because it needed improved) and the offensive coordinator (Bruce Arians) was fired by the Steelers for not running the ball enough.

I really like this pick-up regardless of the arrest. He's young and has been in a run dominated offense where he performed well.
