Over $19 million a year for what was probably at best the 15th best QB in the league last year... I am laughing uncontrollably.

The poster "pacertom" since this forum began (and before!). I changed my name here to "Slick Pinkham" in honor of the imaginary player That Bobby "Slick" Leonard picked late in the 1971 ABA draft (true story!)

They had to do it with all that talk about possibly bringing in Peyton, and Peyton is not interested at all in the Jets, better try to do crisis management and salvage what you do have...

its only a 3 year extension as he still had 2 season left on his contract i believe.

but yeah, its pretty stupid. this will only put more pressure on him.

My guess is that the Jets quickly got word from the Manning camp that he had zero interest in going to that dysfunctional mess, so they react by giving Sanchez a ridiculous extension that makes it seem like they wanted him all along.

They kick Sanchez to the curb in a heartbeat if Manning is interested in playing there.

ITs the 7th highest for a Qb which will be out done by Brees and Manning once their deals get done. ITs really Ryan Fitzpatrick type money and he even got more guaranteed.

The Fitzpatrick deal was pretty stupid too. Paying a guy for half a season's work?

Can't wait to see what Matt Flynn gets paid because of the one game he played.

Regardless of whether Peyton was interested in the Jets or not, it was still a dumb move to extend Sanchez now with two years still on his deal. The guy isn't even very good.

Hey now, Fitzpatrick would be GOAT if the season was 5 weeks long plus the playoffs.

I heard the details somewhere and it is not too bad, I think it is heavily incentive based, he will not see any of the money this year, and only a small amount is guaranteed ...

I will try to find the link though.

Actually here is the information, still a lot of money for Sanchez though.

    http://espn.go.com/los-angeles/nfl/s...peyton-manning

The deal includes $20.5 million in guarantees for 2012 and 2013 and $40.5 million in "new" money, bringing his total over five years to $58.25 million, according to sources. He can make an additional $10 million in escalators.

The $58.25 million gives Sanchez the seventh-highest financial package among NFL quarterbacks, sources told ESPN senior NFL analyst Chris Mortensen.

Sanchez's cap charge in 2012, however, drops from $14.25 million to $7.85 million, a savings of $6.4 million, according to a source. Unofficially, it means they have more than $14 million in cap dollars to spend in free agency.

    A breakdown of the contract:

His 2012 compensation will remain the same as the previous contract ($11.75 million), except now it's fully guaranteed and will be divided as follows: $8 million signing bonus; $3.25 million base; $500,000 workout bonus.

His 2013 compensation went from a non-guaranteed $6 million to a guaranteed $8.25 million, bringing the total guarantee in the new contract to $20.5 million.

The money in 2014-2016 is not guaranteed. That includes $11.5 million in '14 ($2 million roster bonus, $9 million base, $500,000 workout), $14 million in '15 ($1 million roster bonus, $12.5 million base, $500,000 workout) and $12.25 million in '16 ($1 million roster bonus, $10.75 million base, $500,000 workout). There's also $10 million in potential escalators.

The contract virtually assures that Sanchez will be the starter for at least two more seasons. Sanchez, speaking to reporters for the first time since the season ended, said he wasn't bothered by the Manning speculation.
