Terrible news for Los Lobos and Rubio fans.

Stinks for Wolves. They were on the cusp of making the playoffs this year. Means they'll likely keep Ridnour.

AND I've been pulling for them to do so. Maybe Love, Pekovic, and Williams can still get them there with Ridnour at PG. I'd like to see it.

That really sucks for them. Rubio was having a great year and was showing why he was picked so highly. He seems to be a good kid and a hard worker. Hopefully he can make it back from that.

I still think they have enough talent to make the playoffs. They'll probably get swept once they get there but they still have the talent to make it there.

Boy, that doesn't look like an ACL tear. At least I've never seen them torn like that. (In basketball it's rarely a contact injury, and typically the player is either moving forward, side to side, or trying to stop. I wish I had a better view of him from the other side though.) It wouldn't shock me if it's the MCL instead. (Let's all hope)

Yea, my first thought was an MCL strain or partial tear. I didn't think it looked like he was in enough pain for a complete tear. Maybe he has a high pain tolerance. We'll find out for sure later today, I suspect.

Here is the video for those that have not seen it yet.

That's a scarier image. He wasn't injured during the contact, but rather the attempt at a jump stop, I didn't see the foot slide before.

It looks a lot like Hammon's knee injury from a few years ago. (around the 1:30 mark)

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r-sEicDrDAQ

Still odd that his knee didn't buckle. And it's not the way a high impact ACL tear happens. And the fact that Rubio's a man makes him a lot less inclined to have a low impact ACL tear. The difference being force. (IE a harsh jump stop to try and stay in bounds, vs this scenario where Rubio is just stepping.)

Still, the almost identical image is a bit frightening. And if he is susceptible to low impact ACL tears, that's not a good sign for his career. I've never seen a man with that issue, but in young women..that means they are likely to tear it over and over again.

ACL tears are so awful for this very reason. All Hammon did was stop and pass the ball. All Rubio did (if it's torn) is step out to take a charge. It's not intense contact, it's not atypical body movement, it's normal basketball activity. And that's why it's so tough to get over from a mental perspective.

That's 100% right. It's very tough to get over it mentally.

I injured my knee in the summer of 2008. I'm still not over it mentally. My knee keeps buckling with the slightest of pressure applied to it. One time it even buckled when I was headbanging.

Not to mention when I play basketball. I try to avoid contact at all cost and can hardly defend laterally anymore.

    It just sucks

Well, an MCL tear is easier to heal but it's still a pretty serious injury.

Ligament injuries are not very painful. Trust me, I had torn almost all ligaments and tendons of my right knee once and I didn't even flinch. I just felt like the upper part of my foot was completely seperated from the lower part of it. No pain at all.

That said, I would have no problem if someone delivered a career ending injury to Kobe. There, I said it.

I wonder if we could work a trade with them to get a young piece for one of our PG's. I am not familiar with their roster but maybe using AJ as trade bait we could get something in return.

Guess we'll really see just how big an impact Rubio had. Sucks he has no chance of being ROY now.

I hate to say it, but karma/justification for the T-Wolves crying to the league about how he was being defended?

Depending on how desperate they truly are...I would do a deal with them to possibly send gh or dc there...we can make out like bandits if we do this right!

Bummer. Great young point guard who was having a solid rookie year. Hopefully he comes back strong. The Wolves will be fun to watch next year if he's healthy.

Really weird that he was able to move at all, even a few steps, right after he tore it.

The reactions afterwords can vary, at least from what I've seen. (I've seen people come back and finish a game after they tore it.)

The weirdest thing for me is he didn't immediately collapse. Maybe it's just because of the game action that it didn't look like he did. But it almost looked like Kobe knocked him over instead of Rubio falling over. Hard to tell though.
