Hate to say this but I told you big names would not be back.

Mike Chappell@mchappell51Source says Colts have terminated contracts of Brackett, Clark, Addai, Bullitt. "It's a whole new team,'' source said

No one is going to trade any assets for Clark he is way overpaid and is aging and not that good anymore.

dwight freeney most likely will be hard to trade. My Bears are interested but I doubt they trade anything other than a really late pick(i wouldn't be surprised if they gamble that the Colts just cut him). His cap hit is enormous and he isnt worth what he is making at this point. He is still very good and will get a nice deal but a guy who is aging and runs himself out of run plays I wouldn't pay what the Colts are paying him.

A team may trade for him just to keep other teams from competing and it really is like franchise tag at this point. His contract is 12 or 14 mill which is overpaying but its off the books in one year unlike if he was on the open market.

I can see Brackett and Bullitt. But Clark and Addai? Addai can catch the ball out of the backfield and is one of the best blocking backs in football. What QB on earth couldn't use that? And Clark? Yeah he had a bad year, but man, how do you turn your back on handing a weapon like Clark to a young QB who will need him? Knowing that Wayne is likely to follow Peyton, I don't get either of these cuts.

Saw most of this happening, I read a lot of Colts chat sites, and basically, a lot has to do with salary, not this year but in the future, and also fit and performance.

Colts are trying to go to more of a pound running game, and with the play and contracts of Clark and Addai, there was no real need to keep them around if we are in the rebuilding stage, It is arguable that Addai got outplayed by both the other RB's last year. Clark can not stay healthy and has lost a step, or two, or three. Clark has been more of a pass catching TE with very limited blocking ability, which really showed this year when he was asked to help out to provide protection due to our like, and QB issues. Addai has never really been a pound it up the middle type of back either.

Bracked really did not have a position, and the way that Conner and Angerer played this season there is no need to bring him back with the contract he has. Bulliet, can not stay healthy either, and he definitely underperformed this season when he was healthy.

Painter was never viewed as a backup that would be needed to play in games, now that Peyton is gone and we saw what happened when he got in the game it just makes sense that we need to go in a different direction.

Grigson can say it is not about health, but that is a part of it, future cap was the big reason, and their play compared to the next best thing, if not better, was not strong enough to keep them around.
    Why so SERIOUS

I agree, why not keep Addai and Clark? Why re-sign a 31-year-old Mathis if we're going for a youth movement?

Addia and Clark can't stay healthy. They aren't worth their cap hits if they only play 8 games a year.

And now you know why Peyton Manning wasn't terribly interested in coming back. He knew the plan. Colts are starting over, and rightly so.

Bullitt and Brackett were injury issues, Clark isn't worth the cap hit, Addai had nothing left in the tank...and Painter is Painter.

Not sure about that.. Brackett doesn't save you crap this year but the following years it will save us a lot.

    Colts released RB Joseph Addai.
The team's Friday releases of Addai, MLB Gary Brackett, SS Melvin Bullitt, and TE Dallas Clark take the Colts off the hook for $14.83 million worth of 2012 base salaries. Per Brian McIntyre of Football Outsiders, however, the moves only save about $5 million in salary cap space. Addai can still pass protect and catch passes, but he lacks any hint of explosion in his lower body going on age 29. He's missed 12 games due to injury over the past two seasons. Mar 9 - 5:27 PM

    Top 4 for certain though.

And it's not just #4 in the first round, but all the other rounds. So the next 2 years they will get Luck PLUS a late 1st round (virtual), late 2nd, late 3rd, then a #4 in the first 4 rounds.

7 solid picks, you better have a couple of good O-Line, a good LB, good CB and good RB out of that, even leaving 2 misses.

But it's still officially a Pacers town again.

At this point, I think it might be a good way to rebuild this team.

The Colts' greatness during the past decade was built through the draft. Peyton (#1), Edgerrin James(#4), and Freeney (#11) were all early draft picks that changed the Colts from a doormat into a powerhouse.

A more recent example is the Detroit Lions. Getting Stafford and Suh changed their team into a playoff contender. The Colts will be really bad this year but in 3 years they should be back in the playoff hunt.

your forgetting about 10 years of the Carlos Rodgers and Mike Williams and Joey Harrington's of the world. I kind of feel bad for Det they are in cap hell right now due to the old draft structure at least the Colts are rebuilding with a new cap friendly system.

I blame that more on Matt Millen than I do the draft. He was a terrible GM one of the worst I've ever seen. Ask any Detroit Lions fan what they think of Matt Millen as GM. Be prepared for a lot of foul language.

I hope the new Colts GM will fare better.
