Thread: Peyton Manning meets Friday with...Broncos?

Default Peyton Manning meets Friday with...Broncos?

Elway to Peyton: C'mon, I need Tebow insurance.

Peyton Manning quickly has turned the page on his Indianapolis Colts career and will travel to Denver on Friday night to meet with John Elway and the Broncos, according to a league source.

The NFL's free agency period begins next Tuesday.
A lot of things to possibly read into this.

I wonder if Tebow is a big fan of Peyton's now?

This would be Elway's dream scenario, since it solves the Tebow problem.

1)Elway doesn't want Tebow but the fans are crazy for him
    2) Sign Peyton and even most of the Tebow fans can't complain- it's Peyton freakin' Manning
3a) Even the Tebow lovers wold then welcome the trade/ release of Tebow, if Peyton is indeed healthy
    or
3b) Maybe you could hope for miracles and Tebow can develop his game in practice over the next 2-3 years, and be a goalline backup.

For Manning, you have to offer a very good O-line, a very good defense, rabid fan support, a winnable division, a creative head coach

lots of intrigue if this happens

I agree that this could be a great fit for Peyton and take a load of pressure off of Elway from the Tebow fans. It might benefit Tebow a good deal as well to study at the hands of the master.

I would choose Seattle over Denver. You avoid the whole Tebow think and I think Seattle is built better.

If Elway can sign Manning, then he can trade Tebow to Jacksonville.

    Denver = Happy with Manning.

J'ville = Happy because the have Tebow back in Florida. New owner - he wants butts in the seats and jersey sales. Tebow would do that.

Good points. The Broncos would EASILY be the favorites to win that division with a healthy Manning. They are basically guaranteed a home playoff game at the least with Manning.

Go to Miami and you have to play the Pats twice and a Jets team that I think will have a chip on it's shoulder next season. Of course, Manning loves the spotlight and big moments, so he would probably enjoy playing Brady twice a season. I think both of those guys want to play each other again, and what better way to continue the rivalry than through two guaranteed division games every season? Also, Miami comes to Indy next season, which would be massive hype.

Miami = 2 games against Brady and a return to Indy in 2012. That might be too much to resist for a showman like Manning.

As someone who destroyed my body from high school track, it is amazing the difference my body had in Jacksonville versus Washington DC. Esp in the winter

A good point, and one I had never thought of.

Wayne would be giddy at the idea of playing with Manning in Miami. He'd take a hometown discount I think.

Reggie could go back to being a number 2 receiver there which would be great for him since he's getting older. God, a healthy Manning would slaughter teams with Marshall and Wayne. And if Reggie Bush could have another 1000 season then that offense would just be ridiculous.

I think Miami has the edge for those reasons, and the fact that he could come back to Indy and shred us next year while also having a shot at Brady two times a season. That's just too much for him to resist, IMO. The Cardinals are an attractive option, but I really don't think Peyton likes playing Eli and if he goes to an NFC team there is a good chance he could meet Eli in the playoffs. But if he goes to the Dolphins then he wouldn't play Eli until 2015 since the Giants played that division last year, so he'd only have to worry about playing Eli in the Super Bowl.

What if Miami added both Lebron and Peyton in a mere two years?

Heck, Wayne would do everything but play for free for the Dolphins if Manning goes there. I know Miami's got 2 good RB's, Brandon Marshall, and Jake Long, but how's their defense?

6th in the league, as judged by points allowed:

Not a good idea to bring Peyton to a Tebow crazy town, if Peyton is not 100% healthy they are going to try to run him out of town so Tebow can come out his cave and save the world.

Yeah he's going to end up in Miami with Reggie.

They were 6th last year, but they have new management this year. Doesn't mean they'll be as good.

But I think Miami is the best place to go. He'll have 2 chances a year to prove he's better than Brady (which he is), and he'll have the world's loudest standing ovation for an opponent when he comes back to Indy this year. The weather is nice in Miami. He'll have 2 great WRs, a good RB, and possibly a good defense. Plus a new (offensive-minded) coach who has never been a HC so Peyton can run the offensive show. What more can he want?
Don't ask Marvin Harrison what he did during the bye week. "Batman never told where the Bat Cave is," he explained.

Yeah, I really can't see how he can turn Miami down. In Denver he is basically guaranteed to win the division if he's healthy, but Miami gives him 2 shots at Brady a year as well as the chance to slaughter the Colts in the crib he built. Plus, wasn't Marino an idol of his? He can return that franchise to the prominence that it hasn't had since Marino left.

I think Manning has known where he's wanted to go since SB weekend he's just going through the motions until he makes his formal announcement in a few days.

I expect him to play in Miami simply because of his summer home. That and Reggie Wayne will be there with him. Probably Freeney and Clark too. Of course, they will have to share pay checks.

He can buy a home wherever he wants. I doubt that plays much of a factor.

You may be right about this although I think fighting New England for a playoff spot every year would not be perfect. If Houston or San Francisco go after Peyton and get him, that team would immediately be the favorite to win the Super Bowl. Houston would be a sweet opportunity to beat the Colts twice a year for the next four to five years........

San Fran already said they don't want him and I haven't heard anything about Houston trying to get him.

Miami will probably get him because they will be offering more money than anyone else.

Sure, but he bought a home in Miami for a reason. He apparently likes the area. When you factor in Reggie Wayne they have to be the favorite. At the same time, it depends entirely on what Peyton wants "around him". I doubt Denver is a good situation for him for several reasons.

Even if they can't beat the Pats for the division, there are still two wildcard spots. A Miami team with a healthy Manning would almost be guaranteed to get one of those.

Manning is a competitor. If healthy, I think he'd like his chance against the Pats and everyone else if he had Marshall and Wayne.
