Fabrice Muamba Transported To Hospital, Medical Staff Reportedly Working To Resuscitate Him

Fabrice Muamba is at the hospital after collapsing during Bolton's FA Cup match against Tottenham Hotspur and while that is all that has been confirmed, reports indicate a very scary situation in which the player is "fighting for his life." Muamba collapsed just before halftime and medical teams rushed to his aid, treating him for nearly 10 minutes before stretchering him off and taking him to the hospital. The match was abandoned.

Muamba was being given CPR and treated with a defibrillator while down on the pitch as worrying players looked on. According to ESPN, the player was not breathing as he was taken down the tunnel to the ambulance and BBC Radio 5's Ian Dennis said that Muamba was "fighting for his life." Another ESPN report said that Muamba was still receiving CPR on the way to the hospital as medics attempted to resuscitate him.

As of now that only official word on the situation is a statement from the club that read: "Bolton Wanderers can confirm that Fabrice Muamba has been taken to hospital following his collapse at White Hart Lane this evening during the FA Cup quarter-final. There is no further information at this stage."

As soon as the severity of the situation became clear, there was an outpouring of support for Muamba in the stadium and around the world. Fans at the stadium chanted his name and #PrayForMuamba was trending on Twitter with players from around the league and world tweeting their support for Muamba.

Tottenham Vs. Bolton FA Cup Match Abandoned After Fabrice Muamba Collapses

The FA Cup match between Tottenham Hotspur and Bolton Wanderers has been abandoned after Fabrice Muamba collapsed to the pitch just before halftime. Initially the match was just suspended as the medical staff tended to the player and then the teams waited for word on his condition, but referee Howard Webb eventually made the obvious decision decision to abandon the contest.

It was clear immediately the Muamba was not suffering from a regular injury. The medical staff was not treating him as they would a normal injury and if that didn't give it away, the players sure did. Players had their hands over their faces and looked to be in shock as Muamba was treated on the pitch. Their minds were clearly not on football and with both teams more preoccupied with getting notice on Muamba's condition, the only sensible decision was to abandon the match.

Once Muamba was stretchered off, he was immediately put in an ambulance and taken to the hospital. Speculation has ranged from him suffering a heart attack to a seizure, but there is no concrete news of his condition.
Being the soccer fan I am, this is really depressing. Wishing him the best.

I remember seeing the Cameroon-Colombia game in which Marc-Vivien Foe died live on TV. These kinds of things are scary. I wish Muamba the best.

It does not sound good. It took them 2 hours+ from the time he got to the hospital just to get his heart functioning on its own again. The statistics for surviving cardiac arrest are extremely frightening, I suppose if anyone could do it, it is someone who is in shape like a soccer player. Still sending up prayers for Muamba.
