It is in the best interest of the Hornets, for Gordon to sit out the entire year.

I, unfortunately, predicted this back when the Hornets traded for Xavier Henry.

Really unfortunate. It's tough to call it a fluke when he's only played 62+ games once in his career.

Honestly, this is why Bird/Morway et al make the big bucks. If they bring him in for 4/$40 and he's a star, they are genius'. If he only plays in 200 games over those 4 years, they completely ****** up. And I'm guessing he'll get more than $9/$10 per (Greg Oden, anybody?) but obviously it's just a guess.

What a bummer. I was thinking that, even though Simon is not ok with pursuing RFA, Bird would swing a trade or something with NO. Bummer.

i was curious for a while but, i can't say that i am interested in a guy who keeps getting hurt.
i know it is still early but, i am starting to see a bender-like trajectory. a respectable 78 games as a rook. then a significant drop off to 62 and another drop again to 56 last season. he is not only missing games, he seems to be missing more and more as time marches on.
not a good sign at all.

This sucks for him, but hopefully it will help prevent any future knee injuries. I think any long term contract is out of the question for him. I would defiantly take a chance on him with a 1 or 2 year contract but that is all.

Eric Gordon, professional basketball player. A man who can barely walk.

Gentlemen, they can rebuild him. They have the technology. They can make him better than he was. Better... Faster... Stronger...

Our arena, their arena, Rucker park, it just doesn't matter. We're bigger, longer, younger, faster, and hungrier.

Six weeks will keep him out until late March, which would give him about a month and 14-18 games to prove himself. Of course, this assumes what we're being told is legitimate, and he actually is expected to be ready to return in six weeks.

If he's having knee surgery, he might as well have the surgeons remove that extra "K" at the end of his first name

Will this effect his contract this summer.

It kind of depends on what is wrong with his knee. Others have come back and played just fine after knee problems... like David West.

If they are willing to take a 20million $$ gamble with David West I don't see why they wouldn't with EJ if they like him.
There is a HUGE difference in a knee injury to a guy that has historically been healthy his entire career (West), to a guy that has chronic knee problems (Roy).

We don't know the nature of Gordon's injury.

I hope he doesn't end up like Roy. He is a stud when healthy, but so was Roy.

Not nearly to the extent that this thread would lead you to believe.

is it possible that this is a surgery he could probably go without if he happened to be playing on a decent team? maybe he had the choice to wait until the off-season but decided to go for it now to give himself more time to recover for next season.

At this point, the whole "max or qualifying offer and UFA" seems like a pipe dream for his representation. I'm not saying I'm a doctor or something, but if the Hornets offer him something like even 5/$45 he HAS to take it with his history.

Far as us going for him, don't know yet, but not a fan at this point, have to see what this injury is. Sucks, he's the once in a generation perfect storm of young superstar-ish player that wants to play here and fans would adore. Until Yogi Ferrell puts up 18/10 as a frosh anyway.
    Fixed.

Wow...some of you would still be willing to give him $9/$10MIL/YR? I would start at $5MIL/YR after some workouts have been completed.

As a Purdue fan, I can't stand the idea of Gordon on the Pacers. If he was healthy, as much as I would hate it, he could help out. With all these injuries, I absolutely do not want this guy on the Pacers.

A smallish SG with a knee injury? He's done.

This is not a structural issue with his knee, guys. It's not an ACL. It's not even an MCL. It's arthroscopic surgery. For what, exactly, I don't know, but it isn't nearly as serious as an ACL-type injury. That being said, he's injury prone, period. Handle with caution. An ingrown toenail could turn into scurvy with EJ.
