Default Sources: 5 teams eye Kenyon Martin

I wanted him last year for the Pacers, I would cut Lou and bring Kmart here.

    http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/75...-kenyon-martin
The Miami Heat, San Antonio Spurs, Los Angeles Clippers, Atlanta Hawks and New York Knicks are pursuing free-agent forward Kenyon Martin, according to league sources.

Martin has spoken with executives from each of the clubs and is hoping to make his decision next week.

    Martin

The veteran of 11 NBA seasons will be eligible to sign and begin playing with a team as soon as the Xinjiang Guanghui Flying Tigers complete their season in the Chinese Basketball Association.

Martin signed a $2.6 million deal with Xinjiang during the lockout, but left the team in late December in hopes of returning to the NBA.

The CBA's rules, however, prohibit him from joining an NBA team until Xinjiang's season ends, whether after the regular season or the playoffs. Xinjiang is currently out of the playoffs, which means Martin could potentially sign with an NBA club when the CBA season ends February 16.

Martin, 34, is coming off the least productive season of his career, having averaged just 8.6 points and 6.2 rebounds in Denver last year. But contenders view him as a strong and tough defender who plays unselfishly and has a winning pedigree -- Martin twice reached the NBA Finals with the New Jersey Nets.

Martin's priority is to join a contender on which he'll have a sizeable role, according to a person close to Martin.

The Clippers and the Knicks can offer the $2.5 million mini-midlevel exception. San Antonio can as well, but it is unlikely to do so because of the luxury tax, sources said.

Atlanta is also limited by luxury tax concerns. Miami can only offer the veteran's minimum of $1.4 million.

I like Kenyon. We need a big that can defend and rebound. He does that.

I don't think his attitude would be a huge problem. Our guys like Jeff, West and Hibbs (not to mention Granger), can see to that.

Could there be a better fit in the league for him than Indiana? He'd certainly get minutes and we are a contender, one who becomes more legitimate with him off the bench.

My guess is he probably wants to play for one of the NBA darlings, i'm sure we are interested and he probably has zero interest in Indy.

We have 2 roster spots open... pointless to cut Lou.

Uh... yeah. Yes, there are teams who are better fits. He's a PF, we have 2 good ones already. To say nothing about 'culture clash'.

Kenyon is even less of a center than Amundson is.

I take it some of you place absolutely zero value in team chemistry. While were getting Kenyon Martin to come here I hear Rasheed Wallace wants back in the Association as well. There are your two open roster spots right there.

Agreed, we have a good thing going here, don't need to risk messing it up, especially for Kenyon Martin

He should go to the Celtics. Then they could afford to trade Jermaine.
Welcome to Pacers Digest! New around here? Here are three tips for making the forum a great place to talk about Pacers basketball.

    • Log in. Even if you want to read instead of post, it's helpful because it lets you:
    • Change your signature options. You can hide all signatures by choosing "Settings" (top right) then "General Settings" (middle left) and unchecking the box "Show Signatures" (in the "Thread Display Options" area).
    • Create an ignore list. I know it may seem unneighborly. But you're here to talk about the Pacers, not argue with someone who's just looking for an argument. Most of the regular users on here make use (at least occasionally) of the "Ignore" feature. Just go to "Settings" -> "Edit Ignore List" and add the names.

    Enjoy your time at PD!

Unfortunately, KMart would probably do a better job at being the Backup Center than Amundson.

Bad attitude and he thinks he's still a starter.
The first place I don't want to see him is in Indiana, the second is in Denver but the fact that they don't want him should tell you something. I was kind of hoping he and J.R. Smith would really love China and decide to stay there.

I'm not sure I get the, "Kmart is a cancer", reference. Just because he's a tough guy on the court, doesn't mean he's tough to deal with in the locker room.

+1 would not be enough here.

Definitely a chemistry killer kind of guy, besides we have enough PF's IMHO.

Yep people confuse him with a cancer, I remember George Karl talking wonders about him last year and saying how great of a leader he was and helped to keep the team together after Melo left.

I dont know... Somehow, the idea of him skipping out of his contract in China is a good reason for me to avoid him... If he did that, what is to stop him if he were to sign with us...

Chemistry killer??? WTF are some of you talking about. Do you just see some tatted up basketball player who plays with some emotion and assume he's bad for a team?

It's not that surprising to me at all. The money was probably okay, but not great (for NBA players' standards). He's in a different culture, no family and friends, and the basketball is clearly inferior.

2 good ones. Try 1. Until Tyler shows he can hit a shot he's been practically worthless; even Han's D hasn't been that good. I'd rather have Kenyon at this point.
