I'm just glad he's not named Jim.
I'm just glad he's not named Jim.
It worked in Houston. Not saying that it'd work here, but they're pretty athletic.
Don't ask Marvin Harrison what he did during the bye week. "Batman never told where the Bat Cave is," he explained.
This team will look Totally different in two years. I think FO is wanting to get younger and more talented on both sides of the ball.
Gonna be interesting to see what he does with our 4-3 defense. Sure the D's not all that good and it's easy to say scrap the system, but you've gotta actually get new players to do it. We try to go to some sort of 3-4 hybrid (like everyone else in the league lately it seems) basically the entire front 7 needs replaced. Nevis and Anderson could potentially be solid 3-4 ends maybe, but there's obviously no one on the roster even close to being a nose tackle in that scheme and that's the most important part. Not a coincidence the Ravens D became elite again after they drafted Ngata. I could potentially see Mathis as a standup rush end DeMarcus Ware style, wouldn't be ideal but it could maybe work, but I can't see Freeney doing it really. Of course...there's a prototype 3-4 rush linebacker already on the roster we drafted a few years ago...
Regardless, it's an encouraging hire. He's gotten rave reviews from basically every single player I've seen asked about it, and the Ravens fanbase is pissed about losing him. The absolute best part is that his history is as a defensive secondary coach, and ours is just absolutely dreadful.

Finally. What should have been done during the Manning Era: Let the superstar QB polish some turds on offense while you focus your staff and treasure on defense. At least I hope that's what this is signaling.
Im very interested to see his presser tomorrow
Stop quoting people I have on ignore!
Mathis would be a good hybrid.. Freeney is the one im worried about.. He's the better DE, but not in a 3-4 system and i just cant see him working out as a very good LB either. He may be the odd man out if we switch.
Maybe the second pick in the draft can be used on a big DT to clog up those spaces, or as i mentioned earlier we can trade Freeney if we switch.
I honestly think Brackett and Sims wouldn't be a good fit. Sims was a nickel LB for us this year, and Brackett is more of a coverage guy also. Im not saying in a 3-4 the LBs don't need to cover, but we need bigger inside LBs that will be able to shed blocks by huge guards and centers. Coverage is more for the secondary, which thankfully is Pagano's specialty. I do think Angerer, Wheeler, and Connor would be a decent rotation inside with Mathis and Hughes outside.
Honestly I don't know if Freeney can transition to this system after having his hand in the ground for so long, and he's too small for a 3-4 end. There are different ways to run a 3-4 and possibly Freeney could stay at end if we run a 1-gap Wade Phillips style 3-4. We would just have to put a FAT @SS nose tackle next to him for it to work, and the other end would have to be big too. If we did that then we would have more of a hybrid look. The 5 guys on the line of scrimmage would be Hughes, Freeney, fat NT, fat DE, Mathis. That's a pretty good looking front i think depending on the D-line acquisitions, cuz some of our lineman wouldn't be a good fit.

The hardest thing about going to a 3-4 is going to be finding that NT that commands double teams and can anchor the line. Not an easy find, and we certainly don't have one on the team now.
Colts.com video of Pagano arriving and a brief interview:
WE ARE NOT GETTING ERIC GORDON
Anyone have any updates about the press conference? Can't watch it while at work..
I'm sure ill get Twitter updates soon from the media guys but if anyone is watching it, that would be faster.
I'm liking the new guy, he sounds a bit like you know who but it looks like he actually has a personality unlike Jim C.

Does anyone think that Nevis could be the guy at DT in the 3-4?
not a chance IMO he is to small IMO you would have to draft someone and they normally go in the 1st or 2nd rd. But hey maybe Jerry Hughes would play that is the perfect system for him.
It should be interesting to see what they do in terms of personal they need a lot of changes to play a good 3-4.
I think the Colts will play multiple defenses not just 3-4/
