Default Silver Alert - Bloomington area - Janary 23 2012

    Sad news . . .

    6:30 PM UPDATE:

Lt. Bill Parker with the Bloomington Police Department has confirmed that the body of Diane Singleton, 57, of Bloomington, was found around 5:30 p.m. Monday by police-led volunteer searchers.

Her body was found at the bottom of a steep hill near a creek, about 200 meters southeast of Bruster’s ice cream shop near the intersection of East Third Street and Ind. 446. The spot was about a mile from her home.

Police said there didn’t appear to be any foul play involved in the death, but an investigation would be conducted to confirm that.

The Silver Alert that was issued Monday morning for Singleton was suspended about 6 p.m. Monday.

    • UPDATE:

      1 p.m. January 23 2012

Bloomington police at this hour are asking for volunteers to help search for a 57-year-old Bloomington woman who went missing from her home early this morning.

Anyone who wants to participate in the search for Diane Singleton can go to Eastview Church of the Nazarene, at the corner of Ind. 446 and Lampkins Ridge Road, this afternoon to assist police in finding Singleton. Police say the woman left her home on Hearthstone Court on foot about 4 a.m. and may be wearing just pajamas.

In the meantime, Indiana State Police have issued a statewide Silver Alert regarding Singleton's disappearance.

An Indiana State Police helicopter is flying over the area — near Ind. 446, Moores Pike and Lampkins Ridge Road — and police dogs are being used in the search, said Bloomington Police Department Sgt. Steve Kellams.

Charles Dupree, rector at Trinity Episcopal Church, asked residents to pray for Singleton's safe return. She and her husband, Indiana University law professor Earl Singleton, are active members of the downtown church.

"As a community, Trinity is praying for her and her family and taking steps to look for her in conjunction with the police," Dupree said.
