Default David West and Big Smooth

Maybe it is just me, but when West shoots does it remind anyone else of Sam Perkins? Maybe it is just my young memory failing me, but sometimes he reminds me of Perkins. They aren't the same kind of player at all, just certain aspects.

I don't think so. Smooth was a veteran on his last legs who joined a team that was already stocked with aging veterans. West is a guy closer to his prime who has come in to help establish a veteran presence to a young team on the rise.

In that instance, I see him reminding me more of Derrick McKey.

I'm just talking about how they shoot the ball, not their role or how they play.

It took Smooth alot longer to get his shot off. He had an exaggerated shooting motion and spent alot of time behind the 3 point line.

Plus, Sam Perkins never left his feet and his shots were almost always line-drives.

So what you're saying is that he and David West shoot alike?
"Your course, your path, is not going to be like mine," West says. "Everybody is not called to be a multimillionaire. Everybody's not called to be the president. Whatever your best work is, you do it. Do it well. You cease your own greatness when you aspire to be someone else."

Not at all. There's a big difference.

Does this look like a guy who doesn't leave his feet and shoots a line-drive jumper?

I am all about making comparisons, but I don't see the similarity here. One guy was a lefty line drive shooter who normally finished around the basket or shot line-drive threes without jumping. The other is a righty and shoots a soft, medium-arc mid-range shot for almost all of his shots, and rarely, if ever, shoots the three. For sake of comparison, I think the arc on David West's mid-range shots remind me as much of Antonio Davis' 15-foot jumper than Perkins.

Sam Perkins had no elevation at all when he shot, especially later in his career.
Give the ball to your best playmakers to win
