It's not all necessarily about putting the best guys together - $$$$ has a play in it also. IE: Jersey sales.
No it is about winning gold

If jersey sells was part of the decision making Rondo would of been on the world team last year instead of Eric Gordon or Danny Granger or a number of other players. Rondo is a top 5 jersey sell guy and has been for the past few years.

They are trying to win a Gold medal I highly doubt they are choosing players on your logic.

Um, Bynum? Chandler is on this list because of his defense. He is the perfect post defender for international ball.
Bynum is playing well this year. If he can keep this up beyond 1 month, that would help his case. Fact is, he cannot stay healthy. The last thing he needs is more games during the year on an all-star team. He's averaged 48 games/yr for his career. Rik Smits was supposedly an often injured player and he still averaged 72 games/yr.

Also, players like Sheed, Garnett, Alonzo, Hakeem and Mr. Robinson could both defend at a very high level and had more natural ability to score than Bynum. They were simply better players and that's just a sampling. I'd take Patrick Ewing, yet another 90's C, in a heartbeat over Bynum because Pat knew how to play the game.

Why are you comparing 90s centers to Andrew Bynum?

    I don't think there's a comparison. So no.

What are you talking about? Do you understand English? I don't see what any of those centers had to do with a thread about the 2012 USA Olympic team unless you were suggesting one of them should play over Bynum. All my first post said is that Bynum would probably get the nod over Hibbert, and the reason Chandler is on the team is because of his defensive ability and mobility.

Oh, he just thought his "case in point" post improved the quality of the board....

Ok, the reason I brought up retired centers is because people were questioning how Tyson Chandler could be an all-star. Why would they do it? Because many have watched basketball in the 1990's and regularly saw a multitude of players at his level and many far above it.

So, the shock isn't so much that he's on this year's team. It's that the NBA is in such a state that he could ever make it on an all-star team.

Tyson Chandler's selection to the USA basketball 20 man roster and his selection to an all-star game are completely irrelevant. I'm struggling to see how an educated basketball fan could make the connection between the two.

Ever since 2004, the Olympic basketball committee has made it a point to create the best TEAM to represent the United States. It's about the TEAM. THE TEAM. THE TEAM. THE TEAM. Tayshaun Prince never played in an all-star team, yet he was an excellent choice for the Redeem Team because of his versatility and the fact that he didn't care about playing time. Same with Lamar Odom on the 2010 team, which is why he's a very deserving selection on the 20 man roster.

Here are my predictions for the roster. I'll preface this by predicting that Kobe Bryant will drop out due to his wrist injury. That said, here goes.

    Starters:
    Chris Paul
    Dwyane Wade
    LeBron James
    Carmelo Anthony
    Dwight Howard

    Sixth Man:
    Kevin Durant

    Rotation:
    Derrick Rose
    Chris Bosh
    Deron Williams

    Others:
Blake Griffin (although this spot could easily go to Love or Aldridge)
Rudy Gay (or Iguodala, I like Gay because he's a better shooter)
    Tyson Chandler

It'd take injuries for Westbrook or Odom to make it. And I don't see any way Eric Gordon or Chauncey Billups get on this team.

Idk, I think at this point, KD has leaped ahead of Melo. If anything, Melo'd be the one coming off the bench.

Honestly I am a little bit happy that they didn't put Danny or any other Pacer on there because of the extra time and commitment that the players have is an awful lot, especially with extra fatigue and wearing down from playing all of those extra games and the travel. I know representing our country is a very high honor, I played baseball on an Army team in Germany where we got to play German teams and I would not have traded it for the world, even though it broke my body down some. To the guys that were chosen, I wish them the best of luck. I see the guys that they picked and I think that they will represent our country well. Maybe next time around PG will have advanced his game to the point of consideration.
