    Default Saints @ 49ers

    1st quarter summary:

3 Saints turnovers = Niners up 14-0 and threatening again

I think the Niners will make it to the SB this year.

They're a really good team with such unbeatable defense. Alex Smith knows how to maintain the offense too.
In 49 states it's just basketball, but this is Indiana!

I hope so would be nice to see Captain Comeback win it all.

Just goes to show how important coaching is. This was a 6-10 team last year and its with the same players.

Wow what a gutsy play call for the Niners there. Brees can definitely score in the time they left him though.

Just shows that Caldwell needs to be fired and revamp the defense and get rid of those 5ft6 midget defenders and bring in brian billick and let him build a real defense and also draft Luck!!! And pry away the 49ers defensive coordinator

Wow, what a bad post. First off, Brian Billick was originally hired by the Ravens for his offensive acumen as he was the OC for the 1998 Minnesota Vikings, which set a record for points scored in a season. He was in no way responsible for the Baltimore defense- the Ravens had men like Marvin Lewis and Rex Ryan to thank for that.

Second, the 49ers defensive coordinator is Vic Fangio, who was the DC for the Colts from 1998-2001. The 2001 Colts gave up over 30 ppg and he was fired along with Jim Mora at the end of that season.

He was one of three defensive coordinators who got the axe during the Polian regime. At some point, you have to look at the person constructing the roster and not the men coaching them on the field.

That's not to say that Fangio, Meeks, and Coyer weren't without their faults because they were certainly far from perfect. But it's safe to say that the front office didn't give them the best stuff to work with.

Absolutely fantastic playoff game! Wondering if the G-Men at Pack might provide some good entertainment today...or the early game for that matter.

This was a great game. I actually like Sean Payton and Drew Brees but its nice to see the 49ers having the season they are having especially with most of the same players from last years team.

I always felt bad for Alex Smith. I didn't think the guy was Peyton Manning or Tom Brady but he hasn't been given a fair shot. I mean come on he has had a different offensive coordinator about every year he has been in the league right?

I would love to see the 49ers win it all. They have nice balance and have a much better offense than people think. I hope Grigson is taking good notes.

Much as I dislike Ravens fans, a Niners/Ravens SB would be pretty fresh with some interesting storylines.

Yeah. Brother vs. Brother (obviously the biggest one). Baltimore having the chance to win a Super Bowl in the city that "stole" their previous team. Jim Harbaugh having the chance to win it in the city where he achieved his greatest professional success.

Yeah, plenty to talk about there....

These playoffs haven't been much of a surprise. Maybe just the Broncos beating the Steelers, who then lost to the Patriots (no surprise).

Looking like the Packers will beat the Giants tonight.

The Niners are a good football team and one that is known for winning..... ala 5 SB championships.

vs. is my prediction with the Niners winning.

Definately my first preference. Especially when you factor in Flacco vs Alex Smith the hilarity of that as an SB matchup ...

Both Smith and Flacco aren't exactly "top notch" QBs, but they're smart. They know how to maintain their offense which helps win.

It might be a boring matchup though because they really aren't elite QBs and their defenses are probably going to keep the score very low.

I think they'd talk more about Jim and John than Smith and Flacco.

At least it would be something different this year rather than seeing the Packers back in it trying to go as back-to-back champs.

    fixed it for you!

I mean, come on... one game behind Joe freakin' Montana for most career playoff wins, with a better winning percentage, passed for 5,235 yards in a season while playing outdoors, 3 rings, one year removed from being the first unanimous MVP in league history.

Prior to last week, Tom Brady was 0-4 in his last 4 playoff games. Since that time, both Rodgers and Brees have both won rings.

I'm glad you brought Brady up, considering that it's been, what, 7 seasons since he's won a SB? About the same time that the offense started skyrocketing and the defense started plummeting.
