Default Game Thread 12: Pacers vs. Celtics 1/14/2012

    Beat down Boston!

    Game time: 7:00PM EST

    TV: FSN-Indiana

    STARTERS:

    For your INDIANA PACERS

And for the visiting Boston Celtics

    SEASON RECORDS
    8-3 (4-0 Home)
    4-6 (1-3 Away)

    INJURY REPORT
The Pacers are healthy. Jermaine O'Neal of the Celtics is DTD.

And now for our sponsored section of the game thread brought to you by Jack Link's Beef Jerky...

THE MESSIN' WITH SASQUATCH KEYS TO THE GAME

JO was replaced in the starting lineup against Chicago by Brandon Bass. The Boston Globe reports this could be a permanent move as Doc would rather have JO and KG on the floor at different times rather than together. It's unknown whether or not going up against Roy's size might change Doc's mind but as of now assume Bass to get the nod next to KG tonight.

Pacers will need Danny Granger to overcome the severe case of herp-derpitis he suffered last night in Toronto and come back and play good defense on Paul Pierce like he did in the first road matchup this season between these two teams, a 13 point win in Boston for the Pacers.

Boston is statistically one of the worst rebounding teams in the NBA (29 out of 30) whereas your Pacers currently rank as a top 10 rebounding team and have all season. Feisty will have an extra night of rest under his belt, so if the Pacers can continue the Celtics woes on the boards the Pacers should have the inside track to a win tonight.

Boston exerted alot of energy trying to come back vs. Chicago, and already have a team that isn't really built for the shortened condensed season. If we step on the gas early we may be able to run them out of town.

I love the "Messing with Sasquatch" keys to the game.

Boston is coming into tonight on a 3 game losing streak that started with our win over them and they lost last night to the Bulls.

I think if we can lay the hammer down early it could be an easy win. If we let them hang around I think we lose the game. The Celtics are old, but there are still 3 hall of famers on the team along with past and present all stars. They know how to win close games.

Granger will be fresh. It helped against the Hawks and maybe it'll help again.

This should be a win. Old team on the 2nd game in a back-to-back on the road after a tough loss.

One of the keys will be PG vs Ray Allen.

PG was burned by Allen the last game. Hope he makes some adjustments on his defense especially when his man is moving without the ball.

I think you'll see Hill get off the bench very quickly if Paul struggles early against Ray.

Yep. Hill is playing at a high level and might be able to slow him down a lot. But we may need him for Rondo too. Hill only played 24 minutes last time and we may need him out there more minutes.

This is going to be a gut check game tonight. We had all our best players available against them last time. I suspect Pierce and Rondo will cause the problems and that's usually not good. I've been right each game so far and I hope I'm wrong about this one. I fear we lose tonight.

I would prefer to have Hill guard Rondo more than Allen, so I hope PG holds his own against Allen. At any rate, as long as they limit the effectiveness of their other main guys then the chances are they will win another one against the Celtics. I think the keys for the game for the Pacers will be:

    - Limiting at least 2 of the big 3 plus Rondo on offense
    - Rebounding
    - Forcing turnovers and limiting Boston's attempts

I wish this game would have been at 12:00 or something. I will still watch, just wish I didn't have switch back and fourth with playoff football.

I hope Roy goes beast mode tonight. I know DC's defense is improving, but he still scares me against Rondo. I wonder how big of a deal it would be to the players, if Hill started against elite PG's with size?

    Officiating Crew for Tonight's Game:

    Tom Washington
Washington has officiated over 900+ regular season games and 60+ play-off games. The Celtics are 9-1 over their last 10 games with Washington calling the game. At least 2 of the games were poorly officiated. In one of those games against the Hornets, the officiating was very bad and Washington ignored the Hornets attempts to intentionally foul both Pierce and Allen at the end of the game even though he was staring right at the play. The Pacers are 5-5 in their last 10 with Washington as a ref. His home W/L record this season is 4-4.

    Derrick Collins
Collins has been an official in the league for 10 years. He has experience in the CBA five years and in the WNBA three years. He has also officiated 7 years on the collegiate level and seven years on the high school level in California and Louisiana. The Celtics are 6-4 in their last 10 games with Collins. The Pacers are also 6-4 in their last 10 games with Collins. His home W/L record this season is 6-4.

    Mark Lindsay
Mark Lindsay made his debut in the NBA in 2007 after spending time in the NBDL. Before the NBDL, Lindsay spent 9 years calling games at the college level. The Celtics are 5-5 in their last 10 games with Lindsay making the calls and the Pacers are also 5-5 in their last 10 with Lindsay. Lindsay appears to be a homer ref as his home W/L record this season is 7-1.

So it looks like we have one ref that favors the Celtics and one ref that favors home teams (Pacers in this instance).

    Saturday night game!

Should be a good one. Let's make it a good one with a W.

Defend home court and give tonight's crowd something to cheer about.

I'm heading to Bankers Life Fieldhouse right now!

In 49 states it's just basketball, but this is Indiana!

Looking forward to seeing us get a chance to play a veteran team that we've already beaten for the second time.

This game could speak volumes to our growth and maturity if we are able to take care of business twice against a (former?) perennial Championship contender.

I don't really have an opinion one way or another on this post, but your Pacers family photo is awesome. You sir, are an inspiration to us all.

Celtics tend to lose when Rondo looks for his shot a bunch, he isn't that talented as a scorer, i'd prefer he go 1v1 looking for his own as opposed to finding teammates for open shots. Collison will be fine, this isn't Rose, Westbrook or Williams we're talking about here. I'd prefer not to mess with whats been working, Hill will get plenty of minutes as our sixth man.

The celtics have lost 5 of 6 when Rondo attempts more than 10 shots, and has taken 8 or less in all the Celtics wins.

My prediction is that Hill would take over the starting PG position and if he keeps playing the same way he played yesterday I wouldn't be surprised if that happens sooner than later.

Hill was most definitely playing like a shooting guard yesterday, and it was Collison not Hill, that Vogel gave the most credit for the comeback win...
