    Why is this so difficult?

Lou should have let the clock run out. Collins shouldn't have decked him, regardless of Lou's actions.

    Both were unprofessional.
Personally, I thought Collins' foul was the right play. It was a hard foul. Lou earned it. It wasn't a dangerous foul. It wasn't especially malicous. I would hope one of our players would do the same in that situation.

I thanked your post because of the tone.

However, I'm not sure I agree with the second part, although I am open. Lance is definitely a pass first guy. He has not made any shots so far, so that must happen for him to keep defenders from sagging so he can then make the effective pass.

Maybe we are saying the same thing. I'm saying he needs to penetrate, break down the defense, make things happen, and look for the open man and/or shoot if that ends up being the best option. That may not be the same as "always looking for his shot first" but maybe we are saying the same thing. Maybe it would be better to say "Lance needs to make an individual move first."
Perhaps, what I'm really saying is, I think Lance has developed a somewhat mixed results habit of immediately looking for the pass as soon as he beats his man off the dribble, but I'm not really sure that's his game or the best option for him. If you look at him historically, he is a scorer. Now that scoring can lead to creation chances for him for other players, but I think he needs to let the scoring drive the bus. JMO

I don't totally agree with what Lou did, and I don't totally disagree with what Collins did, but I definitely operate under the belief that in professional sports especially, there's no such thing as running up the score, regardless of what the clock says. If you don't want someone to score, then stop it and that's what Collins did.

Should they share orange slices after the game too? I've never understood this part of basketball, I mean I know its just part of it, but I think it's silly.

Both Amundsen and Pendergraph looked like players who have been playing on the practice court for weeks, and were overwhelmed with excitement and nervousness when getting real time on the court. They were both playing dazed and confused, IMO. Lot of clutzy mistakes.

Hardly got a sense that they were intentionally running up the score.
    This, exactly.

As I said, I'd feel very different if it was Granger taking a shot like that at the end of a game. But it's hardly running up the score when their bench had cut the lead from 24 to 12.

My biggest beef at the time was that I wanted Lou to pass and get JP on the board.

EDIT: As Trader Joe said, though, I also didn't have a problem with Collins giving a hard foul in that situation. He was stupid to make it as hard as he did (should have gone for the Flagrant 1) but I didn't have a problem with it as long as the foul was called.

Welcome to Pacers Digest! New around here? Here are three tips for making the forum a great place to talk about Pacers basketball.

    • Log in. Even if you want to read instead of post, it's helpful because it lets you:
    • Change your signature options. You can hide all signatures by choosing "Settings" (top right) then "General Settings" (middle left) and unchecking the box "Show Signatures" (in the "Thread Display Options" area).
    • Create an ignore list. I know it may seem unneighborly. But you're here to talk about the Pacers, not argue with someone who's just looking for an argument. Most of the regular users on here make use (at least occasionally) of the "Ignore" feature. Just go to "Settings" -> "Edit Ignore List" and add the names.

    Enjoy your time at PD!

I once remember someone getting 8 points in 9 seconds... odds are that someone one will beat even that amazing feat. If the other team is still coming at you, then you don't stop going at them...

It's about having a little class and professionalism.

That said I like that we got Atlanta's attention. I hope they bring it next game.

I am at the point I want to see the best of the teams the Pacers face to see how good they are, not the worst for easy wins.

me too. run the clock out, call it a day, no need to make guys mad over silly things. the NBA season is long. guys have trouble getting up for every game. silly to give atlanta a reason to play hard next time.

Reason for Atlanta to play hard next time, you really think two points is the problem here?

Thank God they didn't lose by 20, they might have burned down the building.

It's the smart basketball play to just hold it though. If you stand there and hold it, they either have to foul you, (and you end up with the same result as what Lou did) or they don't and the clock expires and you win the game.

So yes, you should stop going at them, and no it isn't silly. It's the smart play. It's the professional play. It's the right thing to do, no matter how you're looking at it.

For high school and college, most certainly. But this is the NBA where grown *** men come to play basketball at the highest level in the world.

There is no such thing as running up a score. If one team is going to continue playing, then they should expect their opponents to continue playing.

If you want to get the game over with, then dribble out the game clock yourself. Had the Hawks done just that when they had the opportunity, and not taken it to the basket for a dunk, then this wouldn't have happened.

His forearm was aimed in the lower jaw/ neck area. Would have been dangerous if it fully connected.

They are professionals on that court.

There is no excuse for what either of them did. It shows a lack of discipline on the part of both players. The action portends future stupid actions if not dealt with effectively. I would hope that we never lose because of stupidity, like Lou drawing a technical foul at a time when the outcome of a game is on the line. I wouldn't put it past him.

Why is everyone saying Tyler bailed out Lance on that pass? Looked to me like Lance threw the ball over the top of defenders where Tyler could get it. Tyler didn't have to shoot, he could of come down with the ball. Lance put it where Tyler could make a play and he did.
I agree. I'd add by saying Lance saw an opening in the defense but Tyler didn't figure it out until right before he caught the pass. If Tyler hadn't let up a little early it would've been a much easier layup.

I just find it funny that it is ok for athletes to act like immature kids when they are upset.

LeBron can cry at every call made against him, yet in the real world setting he would be fired if he made such a scene.

It's ok for athletes to retaliate to something unsportsmanlike with a punch/forearm shiver, yet do that in the real world and you'd have charges pressed on you.

If people disagree b/c they are playing a game, then is it ok for a kid to deck you child on the playground about a disagreement?

I guess I just expect them to act like professional adults.

Yeah I agree Lou shouldn't have (sorry I didn't clarify that point). Just bothers me people think it is ok what Collins did.

Because I didn't see any malicious intent from Collins. I think Lou surprised him, because clearly he had given up. (his teammates, however, had not) He was just standing underneath the rim all by himself.

I forget who passed it to Lou, but it was in the short corner, so when Collins turned with the pass, next thing he knows is Lou is about to drop one on his head.

Had Collins put Lou on the floor, it would have been different.

I think it had just surprised Lou as well. The Pacers weren't giving much effort on defense, which is why Sloan was able to take the ball rim to rim and get a dunk without someone slowing him down. So the Pacers were letting them do what they wanted, and I think Lou probably expected to get an easy dunk with no type of challenge either.

Or maybe she just has real stuff to do? What the hell, this might be fringe thinking too, but maybe she does have a life outside of a computer.
