Default 8 Games into the 2011/2012 Season, 6-2 and the Pacers are ranked 12th?

Occassionally, I glance at ESPNs Power Rankings and try to take them with a grain of salt. But not this time.

    Clippers, 4-2; Ranked 11th

    Pacers, 6-2; Ranked 12th

Convince me that makes sense. Here's the comparison:

    Clippers/Pacers

    Home games: 4/3

    Road games: 2/5

    In Conference: 4/8

    In Division: 1/3

    Pts Allowed: 96.3/89.3

    Diff: +3.3/+3.8

The difference in points allowed is the only major negative for the Pacers, yet the Clipperes get ranked ahead of the Pacers who have a better conference record, division record, road record AND overall record.

    Amazing...

Admittedly, there's a little homerism in me, but dang!!

The Clippers' opponents have, in general, been tougher. And they didn't lose this week either.

I think it's pretty reasonable. If we're good enough to be in the top 10, then we should be able to beat Atlanta and Philly.

When 2 of your 8 opponents have a chance to sniff the playoffs you can expect some skepticism.

The national media has only began flirting with making the Pacers one of their media darlings this year... Once we continue to confound all the critics and win more analysts over to our side, our power ranking numbers will end up being where they SHOULD be.

We could be 8-0 with a average margin of victory of 20, and we would still only be in the mid single digit power ranks... They will always find a way to rank teams like Miami and LA ahead of lesser known, quality teams.

They are ranked 11th and this is what Marc Stein posted:

    11 Indiana
    6-2 1
Last Week: 12 Question: Why is Danny Granger, who's averaged at least 19.6 ppg since 2007-08, down to 14.9 ppg? Answer: These Pacers, who just rode their newfound balance to a nice little win in Boston, have a whopping seven players scoring in double figures.

There is not reason to go crazy about this rating, 11th sounds about right at this moment.

Well if the Pacers only have two losses after the next two weeks, they'll be ranked second.

Realistically though, even with a few losses, the Pacers will move up as long as they win more than they lose. They have a tough stretch coming up that will show people how good this team is.

I wouldn't be suprised if we have 6 players averaging 15 points a game.
I was in the area, maybe by season's end.

I don't want it to be higher. Not right now.

There was a brief, and very decisive, and altogether unprecedented, outburst of genuine officiating, and it was directed at the best player in the world, and that, my dear young person, simply is not done."

How is Philly that high? Theyve beaten mostly weak teams too

We may have been a little higher had we not been nuked by Miami. I'm actually a little surprised that we are that high.

Not surprised by this. And it doesn't mean anything....but take care of Philly tonight, move up. Lose to Atlanta Wed., probably will still stay where we are. But lose to Boston at home on Saturday, they move up and we move down. That's how these things work. But again, who cares.

I care about finally getting the team on national TV (not NBATV) and when we get there, making an nice impression (i.e., no blowout losses). That will do more for our public perception than any poll.

The media is all over the Clippers because of Blake "overhyped" Griffin. BG probably has the best hops in basketball, yet he can't block shots

I would have never guessed Denver would be 4th in the nba rankings anytime this year.

Anyway, if Pacers can go 3 and 1 in the next four I would say that we will jump a few spots. We definitely have to beat Toronto and win one more in that span for us to not slip.
