Default Roy answering questions on twitter

I asked him one about being allowed to be more aggressive this year and he said the whole team is more aggressive, but...the most interesting question basically asked "What is the biggest change to explain why the team is better this year?"

    Roy's answer?

    "new coach"

Short, sweet, insightful...and oh so true.

Ankles fine people. So happy about Area55's performance. This team is only gonna keep getting better. I'm gonna answer n e questions 4 a bit

Just saw that posted. I am gald that ankle is fine. I was a little worried. Lebron played after he twisted his ankle the other night, then he had to sit out a game.

I know some people will claim that the Pacers have had a worse coach then JOB, such as Versace. However I just can't believe it. I'm not sure I've ever seen a coach have such an obvious impact on any team ever either positively or negatively.

Also I asked Roy who he thought was a tougher matchup Noah or Horford, but he didn't answer.

He also took another dig at JOB when a fan asked, "What's the biggest difference u see n the team from last year to this year?"

Roy's response: "We r not just shooting threes all day."

I think a lot of our players did. Tyler, of all people, is pretty outspoken about it too.

Which legitimately stuns me. I'd never heard a word come out of Tyler's mouth that didn't come from the encyclopedia of athlete cliches...until asked about JOB.

I honestly wish Roy'd move on from these sort of little JOB slights (he makes them often) because I just think it's petty and unprofessional and I've got some respect for JOB making nary a peep since he got canned, but given the guys that have denigrated JOB he must've REALLY alienated the team. We heard stories and all, but it's like guys genuinely dislike him as a person.

This is not new. Go read anything that Chris Webber, Samuel Dalembert or about anybody on his one year with the 76ers had to say about him.

He is the only coach I have ever seen draw this much open ire from players and it is all because he makes them play the game in a 180 degree turn around from they way they have been taught to play the game since they were little.

Your a point guard? Ok your job is not to control the flow of the offense you are to get rid of the ball at half court and look for opprotunities to drive and score.

Your a big man? Ok we want you as far away from the basket on offense so that you are spreading the floor and open up driving lanes.

Plumlee reminds me of a young Dale Davis. Good rebounding and he contests shots well on defense and his offensive game is very raw just like DD's was coming out of college.

I wonder what O'Brien is doing nowadays... wonder if he is watching this team now and wondering what he did wrong.

He's the Bill Polian of the NBA from a personality standpoint not a performance standpoint. Had to clear that up.

Why? Tyler came from one of the best programs in the country. He's probably been well coached his entire life pre-Jim O'Brien and played at better programs than Jim O'Brien did as a player....and therefore, he probably knows better how the game should be played. Probably isn't even the word for it. The style Jim attempted to implement (i.e. force) has never been the model of successful teams in the NBA. He probably got stuck watching Kentucky Wildcat reruns under Pitino...another bad NBA coach.

Hibbert came from Georgetown, another good basketball program. Both Tyler and Roy had to be incredibly frustrated by a style that didn't fit their games and led to YEARS of more losses than were necessary. Considering Jim wasted precious time in their careers and it's a known fact he treated Roy in a way that caused Bird to call Jim to the carpet...well, a few (pretty benign) swipes are to be expected.

As a fan, Jim O'Brien wasted the last 2 years of Pacer basketball watching Danny Granger's skills degrade as he dropped off the all-star team once people saw he didn't play D...all because of Jim's system. Now we have to watch Granger be de-programmed and it's going to be a painful time-consuming process that may not even work.

Edit: What I'm saying is that no one should be surprised by what Tyler has to say about Jim. Tyler played for Carolina. He's going to be turned off when he knows the coach is trying to implement a system that will never work.

I'm not surprised at what Tyler thinks of Jim. I'm surprised he'd say it. I'm actually surprised Roy takes it this far. (And Tyler's made some comments about O'brien recently too.)

A lot of guys on our team are three/four year players. They know how to play basketball. They know Jim O'brien was doing it wrong. But part of being at a big time university is the "political correctness" that comes with talking to the media. You can be honest, but usually guys like that don't criticize the head coach, no matter how bad it is.

John Thompson III played Hibbert as far away from the basket as JOB, so that's not it. I think its more about the overall team philosophy and his abrasive style.

He was an *** that called players out in the media constantly, even when they would perform well. I have no doubt that most of them disliked JOB personally. He'd also pick blatant favorites, which further likely screwed chemistry ,and then refused to adapt to the roster that he had, and in the opinion of the players likely wasted a few years of their careers.

Danny may have liked it, ditto to Troy and Mike, but I don't see anyone else who really greatly benefited.

That's not the knock on Jim IMO. The knock on Jim's offense is that he relied on the three too much, not that he didn't play Roy in the low post all the time. Roy in the high post or a bit further out isn't a bad idea. He has great passing skill and can knock down the J.

Yes, Jim's abrasive style was a good bit of it. But that wasn't the only issue. The other issue of equal importance was his insistence on forcing players to shoot 3's. If that's what you mean by team philosophy, I agree.

In contrast, Vogel is packing the paint. He apparently disagreed with Jim too. ...and now has a darned good record for a young coach even though he's had little time to prepare.
