I don't like Martz. He seems to wear out his welcome very quickly with whatever team he coaches. I want some stability.

I'd rather have young, up and comers with something to prove than retreads. I like Fisher, but he looks like he's gonna be coaching elsewhere next season.

Agree with cdash on Martz. He is probably about the last guy I want to see as the OC. He seems like he might have a little Polian in him.

This is why I like Fisher.

Can you ever imagine in a million years the Colts doing something like this? Fisher may have designed this play, or he may not have. The point is, he's a guy that will LISTEN to a special teams coach who wants to run this play. He's a guy with the GUTS to try something like this.

Jeff Fisher said Friday he is considering coaching next season in only two places, Miami or St. Louis, and that he will make his decision next week.

I don't put much stock into this. He's not going to say he's interested in the Colts job when we still have an employed coach. That would be downright tacky.

There's no doubt in my mind that Fisher would immediately be interested if we fired Caldwell right now. The Colts with Manning/Luck are certainly more desirable than St. Louis or Miami.

The decision next week is the concering part. If we don't have a GM in place by then we could miss out on Fisher.

Yeah, but like I said in the other thread...we're really putting ourselves out there with this. We could end up walking away with no change.

    Agreed.

Either you fire Caldwell right now or you likely end up keeping him. Waiting a few weeks to fire him is the worst possible move because then you will likely miss out on good candidates like Fisher who might have been interested had we moved sooner.

I actually think that it's more likely than not that Caldwell stays. Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought we would fire the Polians yet keep Caldwell. I thought firing the Polians and Caldwell, ie completely cleaning house, was possible. I thought firing Caldwell but not the Polians was possible. But I would have never guessed we would fire the Polians yet keep Caldwell.

Irsay should have completely cleaned house on Monday.

I would love to have Bill Cowher, but I dont know if he wants to coach anymore. My second choice would be Brian Billick--I think he is a great coach, and has the intellect to work with a Payton Manning or luck, or both. It has been said by others(Mike and Mike), that he is very smart, usually the smartest in the room. We might need someone like that since we let Pollian go. I was not a huge Pollian fan in the past few years, but its hard to argue with his overall results...

I would think Billick would be a good hire for the GM spot. I am out on Caldwell now. What if he was just following Polian's orders and was too intimidated by their attitude to go against what the leaders wanted. I feel bad for the guy because of the team that was handed to him. We were thin at a lot of areas and it jumped up and bit us in the arse when we had multiple injuries on both sides of the ball, let alone no Peyton. Maybe I am getting a little soft in my old age but part of me says let Caldwell have another year. Dungy was pretty supportive and the players have said nothing but good things about coach Caldwell.

Of course Dungy was supportive thanks to him we have Caldwell as a coach to begin with.

And the players if Caldwell goes a lot of them do as well if we're rebuilding.

I'm sure he's a nice guy but I want a good head coach and Caldwell isn't one.

I mean really look at his losing record at Wake Forest and this season without Manning not exactly a vote of confidence.

    You don't start a season 0-13 if you're a good coach.

Two main reasons seem to have the most traction, according to ESPN Boston:

    1) Caserio was given a little boost in salary and perhaps told that he and literally his best buddy since college, Josh McDaniel, are key cogs to the franchise after Belichick retires, which may be no more than 5 years or so away;

    2) Belichick usually is very helpful toward people under him who move to new positions, but the exception seems to be when they go to a rival NFL team. Going to the Colts might burn a bridge to Belichick, and then if the Indy job isn't what he wants or he butts heads with Irsay, the next football job may be hard to find.

Depends on how long he had to reshape the roster. Painter would have never played. Just a guess, he would have milked the waiver wire for talent, gotten less error-prone play, and IMO he would have been worth at least 5-6 more wins. About as many more wins as Peyton's presence (healthy) would have brought, IMO.

I fear you are right and if Telesco is named GM I KNOW you are right (well in MY mind I know you are right).

Glad I am not the only one that has that depressing feeling.

The potential GM candidates are stick with their teams and passing up the chance to be here.

I just have this gut feeling it will be Telesco and they will keep Caldwell. It is the only explanation as to why Irsay kept Caldwell in the first place.

I just do not get how you cannot hold the coach accountable as well for a 2-14 season.

I think it's more likely than not that Caldwell comes back at this point. If Irsay was really serious about firing him then I think he would have kicked him out with the Polian's last week. That would have given us the most options in finding a replacement given that none of the other teams have swallowed any coaches up yet. I know Irsay says he wants the new GM to have input, but Irsay basically hired Dungy on his own I think. So that kind of surprised me. I'd be shocked if any GM was upset about not having the opportunity have Caldwell as their coach.
