    Default Brooke vs Stacy

After getting a look at new Pacers studio host/sideline reporter Brooke Olzendam, what is your initial impression of her in comparison to Stacy Paetz?

    Stacy by A LOT.

So far I feel Stacy was a far better reporter, tv personality, and a better looker, though that doesn't matter.

Brooke just doesn't seem natural. Granted she has only been on air a couple times. I missed Stacy

I don't suspect this thread will be in commission for very long, but I weighed in on this in the Raptors game thread. I miss Stacy. She had good rapport with the players and gave more useful information than most. Brooke is easing into it. She doesn't have that rapport yet, and in my opinion, doesn't have the charisma that Stacy had. I suspect she will grow into it and be fine. Any time you start a new job there's a learning curve.

Brooke definitely has to improve her stat reading. Last game right before the Post Game Show there was a stat graphic on screen and she was talking about the bench scoring....IIRC her comment was "Bench scoring...you know you won that one!" in a cool, confident voice, the problem was the Raptors won that one by a large margin. Made her sound disconnected.

The big difference for me as far as doing their actual job, is this..

Stacy, while on air, felt like she was a part of everything and was so natural at it...knowing not only the players, but the game of basketball like the back of her hand...

Brooke on the other hand, seems like she just isn't comfortable yet ..

The best way I can describe it is Stacy felt like a Pacers family member, a sister, while Brooke feels like a sister in law who just married into the family..

Stacy felt natural, while Brooke feels like a fill-in while Stacy is out on maternity leave or some other sort of leave ..lol

Brooke seems like a really nice woman, I hope as time goes on , she can endear herself to everyone, and become more comfortable in her sideline reporting.

I wish Brooke nothing but the best, and am glad to have her aboard...

Plumlee reminds me of a young Dale Davis. Good rebounding and he contests shots well on defense and his offensive game is very raw just like DD's was coming out of college.

I didn't like Stacy when she started but I felt she grew into the job, by next year I'll have an opinion on Brooke.

Brooke has some work to do to get to Stacy level. She deserves a good year to develop what is a unique skill.

In any event, take a moment to compare either of them to Croshere or some of the players...and ask yourself who is more articulate.

I don't know if Stacy is from Indiana but Brooke most definitely is not which was confirmed in the Cavaliers broadcast.

Brooke has that outsider feel and clearly does not grasp the culture and idiosyncrasies of the area.

I remember being upset when Stacy took over Scott Hoke's job.

But then I grew to really like her. She represented the Pacers very well during her stay. And she was pretty (which doesn't hurt).

I see the same potential in Brooke. She has a natural Midwestern charm, much like Stacy. She'll grow into her own in time, also like Stacy did. And she's pretty too.

The truth is, if Stacy had to be replaced, I'm happy they replaced her with Brooke.

Living in Indiana, particularly before they destroyed the high school class system, is different. I doubt anyplace else in the nation has as many basketball goals per person. It's definitely a culture issue.

Also, she is naturally a little stiff and that might be due to the botox. Lighten up on that and she might loosen up. This ain't Californy.

brooke really needs to work on her intonation, because right now it's so obvious that she's reading off something or is (slowly) recalling something she's memorised. either way, it's not completely natural.

she will get better over time though.

Stacy was worse 5 games in than Brooke is right now, but Stacy got better, so you have to fgure Booke will also?

Honesty though if the pacers had decided not to have a sideline reporter/pre and pst game host, that would be fine with me

Stacy has better voice modulation as expected for an announcer. Brooke sounds like a cheerleader.

I have to go with Stacy, but i am willing to give brooke a chance thou. While I odnt know much about Brooke, I do know Stacy was very athletic in school as wellas a pretty good basketball player. I think Stacy just has more attachment to basketball in general, plus Stacy is from Indiana. No, I am not a Stacy Paetz stalker, lol. My best friend and Ex- wife went to school with her so thats how I know a little bit about her.

She looks rough right now, just like Stacy did. Stacy was probably rougher, even.

Her voice needs to be more lively and her timing could be better when narrating highlights. She'll figure it out.

Stacy is from Boone County and a Ball State Grad. Any idea if she found another gig some where else?

This is pretty much exactly where I was going. I really believe Brooke is much, much better than Stacy was when Stacy first started out. I recall Stacy making some statements that just didn't go along with the players she was commenting on.

However, the more Stacy was in the role, the better prepared she was. After a while, I looked forward to Stacy's presentations and what she had to say. She didn't just present canned material, she knew the game, she knew the players, and she often presented her own comments based on the analysis she had done. Croshere and others pretty much agreed with her statements throughout.

In my opinion, that's all I ask and it's pretty hard to beat.

I have no idea what was behind the change. I'll miss Stacy a lot. But I have no doubts that given time, Brooke will be able to fill the same function.

But, if forced to vote, I'd go with Stacy. She's what we know and came to appreciate.
