Thread: This team has won me back

Default This team has won me back

Been on the fence about the Pacers in general for the last few years. Personnel issues. Bad players. Bad coaching. They were bad and getting worse.

Then - poof. We have a roster full of guys that play hard. We have a coaching team that really seems to be working with these guys on offense and especially defense. This is only the 2nd game of the season, but there's chemistry already. And that's just going to develop more and more as the season goes on. Not sure who is going to become the 'leader' of the team, but there are a lot of guys I think could be just that.

This year is going to be fun. Kudos to Larry and his crew for putting this thing together.

You might not be in the minority for long.

He was a captain in NO and it should come as no surprise that he would be the leader here.

To just a little bit lesser extent, I feel that David West can turn us around/take us to the next level like Tyson Chandler did for the Mavs. We are probly still a year or two away from serious championship contention. But I feel like West is the piece we've been missing and we can now start to live up to the potential and start the "New Era of Pacers Basketball" that we have all been anticipating. Proud to be a loyal Pacers fan.

No doubt this is the most fun I've had watching this team since the end of the '05 season after Reggie announced he'd retire. I like nearly the whole roster from top to bottom and love the coaching staff/philosophy.

I enjoy watching this team come together organically more than I would if we'd just signed a bunch of superstars. It feels like we're earning it now.

I think he is, too. He seems to be a tremendous get for this team. Game changer.

This was one thing I had forgot to mention on PD yet, but I sent my dad a text message during the game and pointed out that I really like the communication in the huddles during timeouts. The coaches are talking, but guys like West, Danny, and even DC are also talking with each other and coaching each other. Even the guys in suits are up, listening, and really involved in the huddle. It just seems like the whole team is working together way more than last year, and it's showing on the court.

Also, I really enjoy watching this team grow together from the young guys we have been watching into a serious team that will make some noise. I definitely like the feeling of earning what we have rather than just buying it.

I know that I have never left. I have always been down for the blue and gold. Even while in the military and watching games at 2am, getting trash talked and made fun of for being a Pacer fan. I did enjoy rubbing it in their noses when we won. Being a Pacer fan through the good and the bad makes times like this sweeter to me.

Yeah, it's been pretty obvious from the start.

But how is the team just now winning a PD poster back? Was the run to the finish and the Bulls series not compelling enough? Trading for a hometown hero (still young) and a 2-time all-star PF FA signing didn't bolster some interest?

Sorry, but to me the excuse of waiting for the team to show something was gone about 2 weeks after JOB, and definitely by training camp.

Its just really a matter of time until we see all the bandwagon fans jump aboard. I am more than fine with that because the Pacers need more butts in the sits at the Fieldhouse and the fact that it is so much sweeter for us die hard fans.

The end of last season was a start.

And it got better over the summer when the roster moves.

Or maybe better put, JOB getting canned started the whole thing. Either way, the last few years it was simply difficult to connect with the team. Lots of guys that we knew weren't going to be around much longer. Some pretty bad coaching. Some bad moves with players - that had to be made, but bad nonetheless. Lackluster play. Yada-yada ............

This group plays the game the right way. Larry Brown would be proud.
