Indiana would complete the transition to having the deepest team in the league with this trade. In return we give up a couple of draft picks, that if we continue our ascent probably will be late picks anyway. We also take on Childress….who has a questionable contract but has shown in the past, in the right situation he can contribute on both ends of the court. Mayo gives us that 2nd scoring burst in the 2nd unit with Tyler, and Lopez gives us the yin to Hibberts yang in the 2nd unit as more of a high energy, defensive, and athletic center. The following lineup is pretty exciting…..
PG - Collison, Hill, Stephenson
SG - George, Mayo
SF - Granger, Childress
PF - West, Hansbrough, Pendergraph
C - Hibbert, Lopez, Foster
Memphis picks up a BADLY needed interior guy in Frye, who despite the way he has been used in PHX can actually play more inside out than he has shown. All they give up is Mayo, a guy who seems to have become redundant there anyway.
Phoenix is able to move Childress & Frye, guys who no longer seem to be in the plans, gets a 1st round pick to go towards the rebuilding effort that comes with the inevitable rebuild following Nash's retirement or departure. The only real piece they give up is Lopez…..who they no longer seem so enamored with now that they have Gortat. No brainer for the amount of cap room they create while also adding a 1st rounder.
3 team deals rarely happen but this seems to help everyone involved…
