Default Reggie Wayne: This could be my last game in Indianapolis

    http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...-indianapolis/

Manning isn’t the only longtime Colt who’s likely to leave Indianapolis next year. One of Manning’s favorite receivers, Reggie Wayne, said today that he thinks he may be leaving the Colts as well.

Asked by a reporter whether Thursday night against the Texans will be his last home game with the Colts, Wayne said that’s entirely possible.

“Well, it could,” Wayne said, in comments distributed by the team. “I am well aware of that and I’ve come to the conclusion that in every athlete’s career they are going to be faced with this decision at some point in time, whether it is a long career or a short career.”

Wayne has been with the Colts for his entire 11-year NFL career, and he hasn’t missed a game since his rookie year. He’s been a staple of the Colts’ offense, but we’ve all seen this year that the Colts have to make massive changes, and with the 33-year-old Wayne becoming a free agent after the season, he’s likely to go elsewhere as the Colts begin a youth movement.

If Wayne is done in Indianapolis, he says he’ll miss the local fans.

“I truly appreciate them,” Wayne said. “They come out with the Reggie signs, and no matter what the situation is they are always there cheering and it could be a little tough. Everybody said it would be a little emotional for me.”

Didn't really see that one coming.

All the more reason to draft Luck and start over, I guess.

Looks like the writing may be on the wall for this era of Colts football. Very sad it has to end this way.

    I like Reggie, a lot.

I have no way of knowing what he'll be asking for money wise, but I think he'll be asking more than he's worth.

One of my favorite all time Colts, but this is probably it for him.

If we draft Luck and drop Peyton and Wayne, then it is time for new management to form this team for the next 8 years.

    Polian needs to go.

Polian needs to go regardless but we don't have an owner with the guts to do it unfortunately.

Marvin Harrison was great. Reggie is good. Reggie benefited from having Peyton Manning throwing to him. Other than on a blown coverage you never really see Reggie getting separation. Peyton is just good at getting receivers the ball where they need it and with the touch they need on it.

I don't know that this season helped Reggie's price tag so it's possible a number that might've been projected to be an insult prior to this season might be good enough now. Then again, why would Reggie want to stay here is another question? If we go with Luck... assuming we don't manage to have a terrible season and then win out just when the only thing that saves the season would be the #1 draft pick.... then effectively Reggie's window for another SB will all but have closed if he remains here.

If we stick with Peyton, is Reggie confident Peyton can be 100% and give us another few years of SB contention? Especially when 1 season without Peyton exposed how poorly the FO has been in constructing this team?

And if we stick with Peyton AND take Luck, will Reggie want to deal with that drama and uncertainty for the future, let alone knowing the cap will mean we aren't exactly reloading for Peyton's final years?

So, ASSUMING the team even wants to keep Reggie, who is to say Reggie wants to stay?

I'm guessing the team won't want to keep Reggie because they're going to hope whoever the QB is will make the receivers better and they'll need Reggie's price tag money to actually field a competitive team next season.

Bad management has slammed the championship window shut for a lot of players in Indy. No matter how the team plays the Luck vs Manning hand, several players aren't going to factor into the future going forward (because we can't absorb their cap hit and reload in a hurry).

And for all that is holy.... Lose these last couple of games!!!

I figured as much I mean the Colts aren't going to pay him what he wants especially after this season.

I will feel like crap for Reggie but I know it is a necessary part of the business. Regardless of what we do with Peyton's situation I think we need changes in the WR spot. We need a big time receiver with youth. I like Blackmon a lot for that role but we could only get him if we trade out our pick and drop down a few spots. I see the writing on the wall with the end of an era in Colt's football.

Reggie has good hands, other than that hes not very good really.. Hes solid of course, if you throw the ball to him he will catch it.. problem is he never gets any seperation.. He rarely gets any yards after the catch.. Peyton has made him look good.. its nice to have reliable hands but he isn't worth the money he's gonna think he's worth..

Thing ill miss the most is not having a Reggie in Indy anymore..

However ill be very sad by Saturdays departure.. I think he's gonna retire.. he's been amazing, and a great individual as well.. need more guys like Jeff.

You guys really think he's going to leave?

I'd make a bet that both Peyton and Reggie start very first game.

I hope management can at least imagine a situation where we move on without Reggie. I'd love to keep him but I don't think he's a player you do everything to keep. I would hope they have some idea of which players are "essential" and which are "would love to have," and take a somewhat hard bargaining stance toward the latter category of players. I don't really think it's worth keeping Reggie on a bloated contract, especially when you consider that Polian and staff seem to be pretty talented at evaluating WRs in the draft.

How many slightly above average players do we have that Peyton has made look like all stars? Quite a few I would say. We are seeing this year just how good Peyton has been and I think most people have an even bigger appreciation for what he has done with what he has had to work with.

That might explain this and put it in a different light:

especially when you consider that Polian and staff seem to be pretty talented at evaluating WRs in the draft.

I'd be interested in retaining Mathis if at all possible...Saturday maybe if he decides not to retire. I think Wayne's best days are behind him...Dallas to if for nothing more than his mounting injury issues the last two or three years. I only re-up those two if the asking price is reasonable.

P.S. - Brackett's got to be done too. Why has Sims not started until now due to injuries?

I hate to see all of these guys go. I think we would really miss Saturday, Clark and Mathis a lot. Maybe Peyton will be willing to restructure his deal to make it more cap friendly so maybe we can resign Saturday, Clark and Mathis.

I'm willing to let Clark go I think Tamme would fill in nicely and most importantly he's actually healthy.

If it is Reggie's last home game as a Colt, at least he went out in style. He had a couple of great catches on the final drive.

    I hope he's back though.

Ironically, if the Colts lose out on Luck, that probably greatly enhances the probability that Reggie will be back next season, since the "youth movement" will obviously be out the door.
