David West has agreed to a 2 year, $20 million deal with Pacer - Page 19
So you expect the guy to average pretty much 20 and 9? How many 32 years old guys in the league average that?
David West DOB: 8/29/80...came into the league in 2003
Nene DOB: 9/13/82....came into the league in 2002.
You keep acting like David West is one step away from a nursing home at 31 when all we gave him is a two year deal in which he will just be 32 when it expires, yet you act like Nene would be the franchise savior with a 4 year deal that would have carried him through age...(gasp)...32!
Nene has been in the league a year LONGER than David West. Years in the league is just as relevant as a player's age when you're talking about wearing down. Hence why guys like Tmac and JO have broken down at relatively young ages. They are just in their early 30's, but they've been in the league for so many years that their bodies have already broken down.
So stop fretting about West's age when you've been advocating giving Nene (who has been in the league longer) a longer deal that would have ended when he's the same age as West will be when his ends.
David West is a guy I’m going to miss. He’s probably the most like me of anybody that I’ve coached, in that he wants to do his work and go home. He’s a guy I could talk to and coach. If I had to get on him, he took it like a man. There’s no situation on the floor that he’s afraid of. He’s probably one of the toughest guys I’ve ever met, plays with injuries. He’ll be a great mentor to those young guys (in Indiana). I’m going to miss him. You don’t lose guys like David and just say ‘Oh well.’ This community and this franchise… that was a blow for us.”
