Thanks to the whole "big market, small market" , I don't think J-Smoove would make it to Indy. But I think he would be a very smart addition to the team: smashmouth play, defensive, athletic, energetic, explosive, can start at the 4, back up the 3, and bring an exciting element to the team, which can (and probably will) put fans in seats.

Send Jones+Rush+Posey (to replace Crawford) for Smith? It works, but Atlanta wouldn't even do that trade if David Kahn was their GM.

Our arena, their arena, Rucker park, it just doesn't matter. We're bigger, longer, younger, faster, and hungrier.

I would prefer Horford, and the Hawks GM also said that he would want more for Horford. That at least lets us know he is truly available.

I am sure it would require us to send them Hibbert and Hansborough to even begin negotiating. I would consider it if we could get a center that is on the market currently (even though I love Hibbert).

Send Hibbert for Smith right now. RIGHT NOW.

I've been calling for this for months. They will absolutely take it and we then have the perfect partner to try and lure Dwight here. And even if we can't do that we instead sign Gasol.

    Win/Win.

Problem is Dwight will NEVER sign here, and there is about a 95% chance Gasol resigns with Memphis. That would be just sovling one probelm and creating another one.

Unless we overpay for Chandler or Nene. I see on sites that have Nene listed as a C. Isn't he a PF?

We would then be forced into signing Chandler or Nene for probably too much money, because the need then becomes obvious and they know how much cap space we have. That is not a good situation to be in. Now if we have this deal in place before we sign one of them, then ok. But I just don't see our front office with that as their agenda. I think they are going to look to re-sign Hibbert actually. I think we can get Hibbert for a reasonable deal to stick around, especially having his restriction rights. I really think that Hibbert is who we want at center long-term (production for price). That will help enable us to have five starters making roughly $50M, all very good and not overpaid. I think that is the goal. Then fill in with rookies and great fitting role-players.

Trade Hib for Josh and Throw a Max at Gasol. THAT will solve alot of issues.

Obviously, the best that we could offer is a 1st+Hibbert for Josh Smith....but this assumes that we go after another Center in FA. If it costs more than that....pass.

The one thing that does concern me is that his contract expires AFTER the 2012-2013 season. That means that you would only have him for 2 seasons before he has the chance to bolt.....but I guess the same could be said for Milsap....so maybe it isn't too much of a concern?

Hibbert has almost the exact same numbers as him when you take into account minutes played.

God, I keep seeing "Max Nene" and "Max Gasol" and I think you're all crazy. You guys want 13 pts/g and 7 rebs/g from your max players?! We just got out of paying bad contracts for 5 years why are some so desperate to be right back there?

You offer a max contract to Wade, Lebron, Kobe, Rose, CP3, Howard, etc. Not the nene's and gasols of the league.

As I saw a second ago, Hibbert is a fairly cheap center in the league, as far as his total cost vs production I don't think it is bad at all.

I do like Josh, but I doubt that we would put together any package that would be enticing to ATL, if we did trade Hibbert and some player to be named, we could always try to get a young developmental center in Jordan, but for now I would keep the team as it is without that trade. I think Hibbert should improve this season, and at worst it will increase his trade value.

Last year was actually Gasol's worst production year, I do not think he needs max or close, I would hate for a hot streak during the playoffs where he averaged 15pts, and 11 rebs to mess up the Pacers in regards to cap space in the future.

speaking of cost, do any of you think ATL would be interested in josh smith or horford to get rid of joe johnson's contract?

if so should the pacer's be interested? pacers probably have the cap space, but it would be gone after the trade.

Of course you have to overpay to get a good big. There is a reason he played more minutes than Hib. It is not like we had a killer backup C. And by max, I actually meant pay him more than anyone else...whatever that may be.

Memphis may SAY they are gonna match anything, but that doesn't mean they are or can. They have other people to pay as well.

I may not give up Hibbert for Smith, but I'd trade him to get Horford. Put Horford at PF and worry about a C later.

Take a try at getting DeAndre Jordan or Samuel Dalembart.

    Pipe dream, I know.

I'd love to have smith but if we have to pay that much for a starting big man we might as well offer that kind of money to Nene. Why give up an asset in a trade if we don't have to. He's also going to have to be extended or resigned after next season and will likely expect a max contract.

That basically makes us Atlanta with less talent.

There are 2 types of teams in the NBA. Those with a center and those looking for one.

    Is that you Michael Olowokandi?

    http://www.basketball-reference.com/...olowomi01.html

Sounds familiar? I think it's stupid to offer big money to a player, because they had one good showing in the playoffs and/or regular season the year when they're eligible for a new contract.
