    The next Magnum Rolle?

9 months ago: NEW YORK, NY - MARCH 09: Jarrid Famous #31 of the South Florida Bulls and Yancy Gates #34 of the Cincinnati Bearcats battle for a rebound during the second round of the 2011 Big East Men's Basketball Tournament presented by American Eagle Outfitters at Madison Square Garden on March 9, 2011 in New York City. Jarrid Famous, to be more specific.
According to Scott Schroeder, former South Florida big man Jarrid Famous will take a break after a strong start to the D-League season with the Iowa Energy to attend the Indiana Pacers training camp after he's allowed to sign with the team starting on December 9th.
Famous certainly has NBA size 6'11", 240 pounds and has been productive in his first three games with the Energy.
Famous is playing for the Iowa Energy and, following Wednesday's matinee game, the 6-foot-11 rookie out of South Florida is averaging 24.7 points and 12.7 rebounds -- 6.7 of which are coming off of the offensive glass. The 23-year-old averaged 8.7 points and 5.4 rebounds during his senior season with the Bulls.

According to his DraftExpress bio, Famous is not worthy of the bright lights at the defensive end of the court. Hopefully that has been a point of emphasis with Famous in the months of work he put in since the draft. Unlike previous camps, the Pacers have roster spots open and even if they sign a few free agents they may end up leaving a spot or two open for competition in the abbreviated camp to keep costs down at the end of the bench.
There's already one "famous" Jared from Indy, I wonder if the city can handle two.

Honestly I would love for us to give this guy a chance and get Magnum from Atlanta.... Throw them some cash and a 2nd rnd pick Larry.

I would probably fire any GM that traded cash and a 2nd round pick for the exact same player, who they 18 months previously traded up to get then never allowed on the roster. Just out of principle.

The good thing about this year is that with the influx of new players from FA and trades, there's no need to obsess over every 15th man/training camp invitee.

    Well, hopefully anyway

I understand but if we didn't pick him initially because of financial reasons and roster spots. And honestly that decision was made when Obrien was here and well I dont support any of his thinking. I think Vogel would have picked the Rookie with more promise over the vet simply because hes a vet. So now I say give him a shot. We will have a butt load of cash and I wouldnt mind see us use it on Roelle or even this Famous guy. Young guys trying to make it tend to play harder than older players who have made it. They would give use two more young big bodies. To bang and possible score, or bigs are vets now...imo. Young, hungry, fresh talent behind them should help keep a fire light under them. So take a shot on both of them.

It's hard not to like 6-11 240. Looks like he has a solid frame too, not just dead weight.

    From the article.....

Famous has a chance albeit small, the thing is he’s already 23, a bit old for someone this raw. Though he does draw resemblance of DALE DAVIS due to his huge frame and athleticism. This could be interesting given that he’ll only cost a cheap contract and a roster spot.

He was putting up some nice numbers, especially rebounding. Doesn't hurt to give him a look.
Lance + Starting SG = Awesome

    Now really free Lance!

8pts 5rebs less than a block last year isnt exactly good numbers in my book. much rather give Greg Smith a look than this guy both likely wouldn't make the team though Greg might.

Shawne Williams is a UFA. Let us sign him to a 2.3 million over 3 years.

I do understand your thinking, but I just don't feel it's a good idea. I followed Shawne with the Knicks last season, and I do hope his career succeeds.... just elsewhere. Besides the Pacers have a stretch 4.... James Posey. LOL!

Yeah I was joking. Building off of the trading for Magnum Rolle suggestion. To take it one step further we need to sign Tinsely as our 4th point Guard. Maybe we could give him a contract on the value of his buyout?

rellieved...I thought this thread would say that maybe we would be the NBA team who invited Adam Morrison to camp. He supposedly has resurrected his game overseas and wants another shot
