Decision expected from Nene by the end of the day on hefty offer from Nets. Four years, $64M is the most they can offer

so im guessing its either Nets or Nuggets?

yes he is he is basically another Jeff Foster.

his contract was being paid all we had to pay of his contract is 1m dollars really stupid we didn't get involved in this trade. Larry said he would wait for these types of deals. He would of been in the rotation this year and would of helped.
Except it would restrict our ability for better "these kinds of deals" over the next few weeks. If this were something done in January, I could see Larry being involved. Otherwise? No.

Foster is literally twice the rebounder Turiaf is.

thats we are still really far under the cap after that trade. Something like 15m.

for those who were wondering about chad ford's max numbers. the 12.9 is the pro-rated amount of the 14.5 max and the 15 is the pro-rated amount for the 30% max number 17.4.

if the pacers signed nene to a max contract, the salary cap amount would be 14.5 or so. but the pacers would only pay 66/82 of that amount the first year since this is not a complete season.

like most of chad ford's stuff, it is technically correct, but uniformative. kind of like microsoft help.

    No ****.

Think about it though, we probably still think that we're in it for Nene. That's 15 mil or so right there. New York had to unload Turiaf quicker than we could commit to something like that.

Not everything is gonna be done this week. Hell, cap space is probably going to be a bigger deal early in the season than it is right now.

Lots of speculation that Emeka Okafor is in the new CP3 deal. Source says he is not part of trade.

RT @johnhollinger: Would seem to me Nene is waiting on this Pau trade. Rockets could go 4-64 or thereabouts if they wanted to.

Steve Kyler just said the Lakers could do Bynum and Okafor for D12 and Hedo at the deadline.
That's fantastic. Since Bynum can barely be considered a basketball player, we are basically looking at a Howard for Okafor swap. Not very often do we get to see a team make the right call on a debated #1 overall pick to then go back and swap out for the wrong pick.

Maybe next year we can see the Bulls trade Rose for Beasly followed by the Thunder swapping out Durant for Oden.

If this trade goes through we SERIOUSLY need to call the Hornets about Scola. Can't a guy be traded by himself after being traded? Like Rasheed Wallace from Atlanta to Detroit a few years ago?

    Am I missing something?

Bynum's barely a basketball player? I'd hate Howard in LA as much as anyone, but c'mon now.

No. That would be a good idea.

New orleans would have a pretty nice firesale with KMart, Odom and Scola.

I can't believe LRMAM signed that offer sheet. That will arguably be the best non-rookie deal in the league.

Agreed. If NO was trying to get younger and cheaper for a potential buyer, they could certainly to do well auctioning off those three for younger players, draft picks and expiring contracts.

Considering over the last 4 seasons Bynum and Jermaine O'neal have played in the exact same number of games, it's not that far from the truth.

@HowardBeckNYT: Also official now: Knicks waive Chauncey Billups under amnesty provision

Note this is amnesty and not buyout, so from what I understand only team under the cap can bid on him and the highest bidder wins him. So unlike rip who's going to end up playing for a contender for minimum cash, Billups will be stuck somewhere in a team that has cap space and is willing to pay.
However, Billups already stated through his agent that if he ends up in a bad team, he's going to retire.

Knicks get Chandler in 3-team dealEmailPrintComments549By Ian Begley
    Special to ESPNNewYork.com
Archive The New York Knicks have acquired Tyson Chandler via a sign-and-trade as part of a three-team deal.

The Knicks sent veteran center Ronny Turiaf, cash considerations and a 2013 second-round pick to Washington. They also dealt second-year guard Andy Rautins to the Dallas Mavericks. Dallas sent a second-round 2012 draft choice to Washington and the draft rights to Ahmad Nivins and Giorgos Printezis to New York. Washington also sent a future second round draft choice to Dallas.

In addition, to create enough cap space to sign Chandler, the Knicks waived veteran guard Chauncey Billups, designating him as the club's amnesty player. Billups and his $14.2 million contract will not count against the Knicks' salary cap.

"This is an important day for the New York Knicks," acting general manager Glen Grunwald said in a statement. "Signing a player of Tyson's caliber, with championship experience, to this roster, is an opportunity we could not pass up."

Chandler opted to sign with the Knicks after being heavily courted by the Golden State Warriors and Houston Rockets, among other teams.

The sign-and-trade gives Dallas a sizeable trade exception.

The Knicks had to move Turiaf (scheduled to make $4.8 million this season) and Billups to create cap space to sign Chandler. According to the New York Times, the terms of Chandler's deal are believed to be in the range of $58 million for four years.

The 7-foot-1 Chandler brings size and paint presence the Knicks have lacked in recent seasons.

"He brings everything that we didn't have," coach Mike D'Antoni said on Friday, before the deal was announced. "... We got a lot better, real quick."

The Knicks will introduce Chandler in a formal news conference on Saturday afternoon.

He served as the defensive backbone for the NBA champion Mavericks last season, averaging 10.1 points, 9.4 rebounds and 1.1 blocks in 74 games. Chandler also finished third in Defensive Player of the Year voting.

"We were looking for a center and Tyson Chandler's a perfect fit for us," Amare Stoudemire said. "It's something we talked about doing when I first signed here ... looking to build a championship-caliber team. And with the guys we have, we feel like we are on the right track."

it's an empty threat. Bilups is not going to give up $14 million on principle. His agent is trying to bully him into free agency, and I hope somebody calls his bluff.

Any team that bids on him has NOTHING to lose by doing so. If he retires, you owe him zilch.

The Clippers would be a great fit for him, especially with Bledsoe out.

Blatantly obvious Billups strategy likely to be copied by other amnesty players. If nobody picks him, can double dip and get more $$

    Bill Simmons

If the Lakers get Okafor in the CP3 deal, I hope they don't spin Bynum to Indy, Minny or Portland for multiple pieces. That would scare me.

that's just bill thinking out loud.

LA DOES have to move Bynum, though. They can't hope to win a championship with him as their third best player by a mile.

well of course, just didn't know if there was any chance of it actually happening. Would be nice to have bynum next to roy, even if he only plays 2/3s of a season..

Sure there is. Bynum is the only asset LA has left to deal, and they have multiple gaping hols that need to be filled by something better than minimum wage vets.
