Default Mystery Matchup on Opening Night

INDIANAPOLIS (Nov. 30, 2011) – More than 7,000 tickets priced at $10 or less will go on sale, Friday, Dec. 2, at noon for a one-of-a-kind promotion as the Indiana Pacers open the 2011-12 National Basketball Association season: Mystery Matchup on Opening Night.

As the NBA and players finalize details of a new Collective Bargaining Agreement, fans will be able to purchase tickets for Opening Night prior to the official release of the anticipated 66-game schedule. The date and opponent for Opening Night will be announced soon.

Ticket prices for Opening Night presented by Indiana University Health and Kroger start at $5 in the Balcony Level, $15 in the Krieg DeVault Club Level and $40 in the Lower Level. They will be available online at Pacers.com.

Ticket inventory for this promotion is limited and will be distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis. Online fees have been eliminated for Balcony Level tickets and reduced for all other locations. Ticket prices for Season-Ticket holders will be reset automatically to the Mystery Matchup price and Season-Ticket holders will have access to an exclusive online presale starting at noon, Thursday, Dec. 1. Once all other home games go on sale, tickets for Opening Night will return to normal individual game prices.

“Opening Night is always special in sports, no matter the opponent or day of week,” said Larry Bird, President of Basketball Operations. “Although we don’t know our exact opponent or the date of the game, this is a great way for our fans to come see a team that we feel very good about.”

“Mystery Matchup on Opening Night was created to appeal to a wide range of Pacers fans and we want to be certain our Season Ticket Holders were at the top of the list for this unique promotion,” said Jim Morris, President at Pacers Sports & Entertainment.

Fans in attendance for Opening Night will experience the Blue and Gold carpet treatment as the Pacers will host a traditional pregame party featuring live music, fan interactives, and great prizes.

This sounds great and all, but I am not going to buy tickets when I have no idea when the game will be. I know it will be after Christmas, but does any one have any idea on a more specific time frame?

Are we taking guesses on who our opening-night opponent will be?

    I'll go with Milwaukee.

Well thats why the priced the tickets dirt cheap. Would be nice to upgrade to the club level from my row 2 balacony seats....

I'd watch the Pacers for the Pacers.

I'm expected a sellout like every Pacers home opener.

Hopefully it won't dip too deep like it has in recent years though.

Since this game is (most likely) after Christmas, I'm hoping I get a couple seats for this game. I don't care who we play.

Our arena, their arena, Rucker park, it just doesn't matter. We're bigger, longer, younger, faster, and hungrier.

I am not worried about who either, more worried about when.

Christmas is on a Sunday, so I would think the game would be Monday-Wednesday? Probably at 7?

I won't miss it for the world. Can't wait to find out the date so I can tell my employer to GFY that day.

If the mystery matchup ended up being heat wouldn't the Pacers front office be pissed? ha. ( i know it probably won't be because they play christmas)

I hope they have those holiday ticket packs available when the schedule is released.

The one where you can pick between 2 players and get tickets to games and an autographed photo of that player. Last year it was Tyler and DC packs IIRC. It's a good gift.

The home opener is going to be a fun night. I'll be treating employees to the game and of course a SELLOUT!

Last year was great, but this year is going to be 20x better!

    OKC on Christmas Day!
They announced 3 games all big market.
They will announce 2 games both smaller market.
The first step for the NBA front office to help balance the league.

    Sounds good anyways.

Isn't it basically Black Friday prices (that was just missed) for preseason games? (or the first few games?)

I heard talk on twitter about some NBA entity(ies) thinking about free tickets for the first games. Why not for one one preseason home game after a dumb lockout?

Especially if the Bulls are coming to town, which looks maybe "likely" since the twitter said Bucks were playing someone else. Pack the house for free as a thank you for the lockout and get Indy excited about Pacers again.

I think we'll get one of the new Christmas day games for some crazy reason.

It could be the Toronto Raptors that we go up against, and I know I speak for everyone in Area 55 when I say that we'll scream our heads off as if it's Game 7 of the Finals. Can't wait, man.

I personally doubt it, and I would not be in favor of it either. I could make it, but I am going with some pals, and I am sure they have other things happening.

If we were, then I'd be telling my grandma GFY so I could go to the Pacers game. Wouldn't be the first time either.

I'd expect a division rival or another lousy team to be the first opponent. I cannot imagine the FO selling tickets this cheap if there is a real chance they play one of the top teams.

    Milwaukee would be my guess.

Home openers have been at 8pm the last few seasons.

**** yeah, man. Besides, Christmas is usually "over" for our family at like 1:00 in the afternoon, anyway. After that, it's just food, movies, and naps. I'd be over at Conseco in a nanosecond if we had a game that day.

We won't. I wrote in another thread that at the bagel store the other morning, I asked Denari directly, and he said that game #1 is on the 26th. It wasn't clear to him who we were playing and where.
