    Default Fatal error

When I try to read the Lockout News and Discussions thread, either opening the entire thread using the primary link, or start with the first new post, I get the white screen of death with the following:

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 67108864 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 24281 bytes) in /var/www/showthread.php on line 1275
I have been following that thread every day, trying to keep up, because I had been getting a warning about the possibility of my computer becoming unresponsive if I continue to allow the script to keep running. I had let the script continue running because without it I don't think it was keeping track of what I had read vs. what I had not.

I don't have any real advice, unfortunately. I can only suggest things like clearing your browser's cache and maybe trying other web browsers or computers to see if any of them let you back in.

The memory allocation needs to be increased in the database or the code.

But it says it tried to allocate a much smaller number of bytes than the alleged limit? (About 24k with about a 67m limit)

I have tried IE, Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Opera. All the same result. I have also tried machines with XP, Vista, and Vista 64 bit, and I also have tried both satellite broadband and cable broadband. Also all the same result.

Is there something I need to adjust on my end to alleviate the issue somehow (would it possibly have to do with other software that I might be running that is changing my allocations somehow, and if so, how would I spot which one and correct for that?)?

I suspect that I am missing out on some good discussion, especially as some of the previous heavyweights are beginning to post from what I gather.

I do have the ability to view the thread as long as I am logged out and viewing the site as a guest. It is just difficult to keep track of what I have read in such a massive thread.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Is it definitely only on that thread? That thread is by far the largest on the Pacers board right now. Try opening the movie thread from the Market Square board with a similar number of posts in it and see what happens.

All the different computer, OS, browser, and broadband configurations, can you think of anything that all the machines have in common? Some kind of software or setting on all machines? You don't happen to host a blog or forum or a website of your own do you? That's one of the common themes popping up when researching this error is that a lot of people reporting it are trying to upload something to their website or blog.

Good suggestions. I will try to think of a common characteristic of all of the machines.

the error only occurs on new posts, that can be circumvented by temp titles.

Opening any thread has nothing to do with the database as you are not calling the entire database to check for comparison.

you can perhaps set you settings to less posts on a page, drop poster-pics or whatever there are many options in your personal settings that influence this.

I am sure it is not the site itself, because for that to be the case everyone would have to have the problem including me.

Since that isn't the case, I am sorry to say that the problem is on your end
