Your latest Bill Cowher job rumor
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on October 14, 2011, 12:53 PM EDT
Getty ImagesThe NFL season hasn’t really started until a new rumor emerged about Bill Cowher’s possiblyenext job.

From Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: “Latest rumor in Jacksonville: Bill Cowher bought a house in Marsh Landing and will replace Jack Del Rio.”

We debated posting this, but the page you are reading is called the “rumor mill” not the “news mill.” It’s unclear if Dulac has any information, or just heard the rumor second hand.

Dulac wryly notes that we’ve been down this road with Cowher.

“Bill Cowher has been rumored to have bought more houses than Donald Trump,” he writes.

Expect Cowher to deny this rumor in short order. And expect to hear similar rumors about Cowher when jobs are actually available at the end of the season.

If Cowher doesn’t get back in the game soon, it will grow increasingly harder to believe that he’ll ever return.

I don't think its true I can't imagine Cowher returning to the Jags of all places(unless Weaver gave him a ton of $$$) and it just seems like wishful thinking.

But yeah that would suck if the Jags get Cowher and we still have... Caldwell?!

    So wrong.

He can do much better than Jacksonville. I highly doubt him coaching there.

I'd be shocked if he waited this long only to come back and coach such an inferior franchise.

Why not wait for the Giants job? Coughlin can't possibly ride the goodwill of the Super Bowl win much longer. Miss the playoffs for a third straight year and there's no doubt he's toast. If they fail to win a playoff game then he still might be toast.

The Eagles job might be available sooner...

Yeah, after the season, if Cowher makes it known he's going to coach again, he will have his choice of available jobs. I don't know why on earth you'd choose the Jags when you could have ANY job you wanted.

I'd kill to get Bill Cowher, he's the coach that would help us consistently beat the Pats and win more than one Super Bowl...

Cowher has been away from coaching for a few years--that always scares me. Jax can have him.

I've never understood the Cowher love. He spit a hell of a lot more than he won but since he screamed a lot he must have been good?

But I'm going to be sad to see Del Rio go. You always have a shot when he's on the opposite sidelines.

Of course, Jim Caldwell is in the same league.

I can't tell if you're joking or being serious.

The Pats are living on past reputation at this point and when the Pats were winning SB's they were always in Cowher's way. He couldn't get past them in the playoffs.

That would be the one knock I had against him at Pittsburgh they didn't have a QB to rely on until Ben came along.
