Default Painter the starter the rest of the way

Asked again about QB Kerry Collins, it was obvious #Colts HC Jim Caldwell wanted to spell out once and for all Curtis Painter is starter.

The guy's played 5 games. 5 GAMES. The hounds of hell were unleashed upon him after not even 2 full games simply because he's not Peyton Manning and a bunch of idiots read Stampede Blue. Who figured it might take, I dunno, maybe even a half a season's worth of snaps to at least get a feel for what the guy could actually do?

    Suck it haters. Boiler Up.

It's always nice to spend 4 million for a 38 year old washed up QB when you already have a better QB on the roster.

Christ, we have 4 freaking QB's on the active roster right now, don't we?

And that's really all you can take away from this. Painter is better than Collins. Whoopee.

No one thinks Painter's a legitimate long term QB option. I'm talking about the people that could do nothing but tear the guy down before ever giving him a shot.

And yes, some of it was in jest, the stats and whatnot (they aren't that good and a number of the TDs are thanks to Garcon not Curtis). I'm just saying, the guy's gotten nothing but vitriol basically his entire career. Now he's outright won the starting job and played better every week of the season. The dude deserves some credit.

Yeah. He is. Which makes the signing a complete and utter waste.

And don't say no one could have predicted that. Reggie Wayne clearly did when he was upset about the Collins signing and said we should roll with Curtis. I'd say he knows the offense pretty well.

He deserves credit for being better than Collins, but we haven't even won a game with him as the starter.

Collins should be taken off the active roster right now. We don't need 4 freaking Quarterbacks on our active roster.

    Manning, Painter, Collins, Orlovsky

You're apparently misconstruing this as me saying Curtis Painter is going to lead us to the playoffs or something. I'm simply saying the people that wrote him off as a waste of a roster spot after not even 100 career pass attempts are gun jumping morons.

But doesn't the point still stand that we probably could have had a better backup QB to start with?

We are talking about a backup quarterback right? Most backup qb's in the league are waste of a roster spot hence why we only kept one backup qb over the years.

I think eveyone now might see Painter as on Sorgi's level but who really cares about a backup QB's unless they have the potential to be a future starter.

2012 Painter = rest for Peytons arm in practice.

Seriously? Backup QBs are a waste? I can see this coming from a Colts fan any year but this one, but this one makes this statement pretty obviously wrong even if you've never paid attention to any other NFL franchise.

THe Sorgi's of the world are a waste plan and simple unless your claiming Painter is the future starting Qb for this franchise. You think any other Qb outside of Peyton could have given this team a real shot at a superbowl or getting past the first round of the playoffs. Certaintly no Qb's we could have gotten could have given us a real shot at winning this year so its a moot point.

Painter hasn't even won a game or closed one for that matter so sorry if I don't think its a point worth making. Beating out a concussed Collins for the starting job isn't a major achievement and it doesn't rule out that he's a below average backup QB.

I am glad he performed pretty well against a terrible KC team but outside of that you can exchange his name with any other backup QB in the NFL and I wouldn't care.

I don't understand how back up QBs could possibly be a waste. No, not all of them are great. In the Colts' case it is true that they are not that important, but if your starter goes out for a few games it is important to be able to at least stay competitive til he comes back.

Of course there are better back ups than CP and very few would have led the Colts half as well as Manning did, but they are far from useless.

I would agree with that but notice I did say most backup Qb's not all. Certainly most backup Qb's can't keep your competitve. The only ones that come to mind in recent memory is Schaub, Matt Cassel, and Kolb.

At this point, wouldn't a full commitment to "Suck for Luck" include making Collins the starter again ASAP?

Until the defense changes we need a miracle worker at QB to get this team wins. There aren't many miracle workers available that don't already have a gig. And the miracle worker we have is unavailable.
Nuntius was right. I was wrong. Frank Vogel has retained his job.

Or having Polian take some snaps.

No because it would be too obvious. At least with Painter it looks like a concerted effort is being made to win

Yes I have always wanted one just in case this day came.

Well this day came and after watching this team like Bball said the QB has to be a miracle worker to cover up the rest of this team.

With the way the rest of the team is it really doesn't matter who is QB (except Peyton when healthy) because this team is below average sans Manning.

Painter's not really the problem. Our defense is really, really bad and got worse with injuries. That's why the Colts may not win a single game this year. Painter would already have a W but-for the defense which really can't stop anyone.

You also need to add bad coaching too
