I was thinking about this today. Seeing the Pats, Steelers, or Bears appear let alone win a Superbowl in Indy would just be awful. The thought never crossed my mind until Peyton's injury.
I don't like the Steelers, but I could tolerate them.

The Bears wouldn't be so bad if not for their fans. In fact, I'd probably pull for them if it weren't for their fans.

The Pats...there's just nothing good about that organization. Or their fans. At all.

New England woud def. be the worst. We have some NE fans here at my work and they are the worst. San Diego would be next up on my list of teams I would hate to see here in Feb. Both of them have been our biggest road blocks over the past decade.
One team no has talked about that I don't want here either is the Jets. Can you just here it J E T S Jets, Jets, Jets. Rex Ryan is about as obnoxious as they come. Here already predicited they would be in the superbowl.
If I have to root for one team other than the Colts to win the superbowl I have to go for the Saints. Just for the Drew Bress connection and me being a boiler. It hurt pretty bad watching him beat the colts in the superbol, but if we can't win it I will root for him to get another ring.

One of my best friends is a NE fan. I would never hear the end of it.

    Never.

As irritated I am about all things Chicago sports, I agree. Cubs fans (really, Chicago fans in general, as much as it pains me to say it) are not of the fair weather variety. There's a lot of pride in the people of Chicago. They love their city, and anything that represents it.

Oh yes you are. Bears fans are the WORST. You're the only fan base delusional enough to call a one time SB winning team a "dynasty."

Thats not fair weathered though. Chicago fans are pretty loyal, and they support 5 different pro teams. Hell the Cubs are 5th in attendence % even though 23 teams have better records than them. Can you imagine the Pacers having a 90% attendance record these past couple of seasons? Even as the Pacers made the playoffs last season they hit 74.5%.

Hate Chicago fans all you want, but they aren't fair weathered. And quite frankly its funny coming from Indy fans who can't support two teams at once, while Chicago supports 5.

Even though I don't expect it, I want the Giants to win the Super Bowl in Indy if the Colts can't do it, and it can be against NE again, the Steelers, Jets, Bolts, or any other AFC team at this point.

Shocking that the third largest metropolitan area in the country has great attendance for it's sports teams.

Chicago has 9.5 million people in it's metro area. DuPage County, one of the wealthiest counties in the country, has almost 1 million people. That's 1 million people with a lot of purchasing power who can afford to the games. That's not even counting the other extremely wealthy areas of the city.

I'll never give a massive city like Chicago a cookie for having good attendance.

The accusation P4E responded too wasn't about fairweathered. It was about them being obnoxious.

Oh god, obnoxious Bears fans invading Indy during the SB? That would be horrible. Just horrible.
I think it's funny when people come in and rush to defend, when they can't even take the time to read what the conversation actually is.

Notice I didn't say anything about "fairweathered." It should have been a pretty good hint on what the subject was not about.

yes it was I was talking about how we aren't fair weathered. Every fan base has Obnoxious fans and honestly it isn't a bad thing. I dont think anyone has said we had a dynasty and if they did they are an idiot. We did have a good run in the 80s and one of the best teams of all time in 1984 (they were better than the 85 team IMO) not a dynasty. But come on every team has idiot fans don't judge the fan base off the minority's opinion. That would be like saying all 49er fans are thugs for fighting and gunning down people in the preseason. Those guys aren't the majority of niner fans thoes were just a few thug gang members not true fans.

The Bears did have a dynasty in the 40s

and have a dynasty of having a good defense year in year out and normally having a a good LB or two.

1,756,241. That's the population of Indy's metro area.
9.5 million. That's an estimate of Chicago's megalopolis area.

    18,165. The capacity of Conseco.
20,916. The capacity of the United Center.

That means, that Indy needs 1 out of 96 needs to buy a ticket in order to sell out Conseco. 1 out of 454 need to buy a ticket to sell out the United Center.

And that doesn't even stratch the the fact that Chicago has had sports teams since the the late 1800s, the very first professional football team, etc.

100 years of history, compared to 26 years, with 5x the amount of people?

    Shocking, I tell you. Shocking.

It isnt just about home attendance go to a Cubs game in Cincinnati or Milwaukee and you will see the Cubs travel well. Same with the Bulls when they play in Indy or Milwaukee the fans travel for the team. Go to a Bears game in Cincinnati or Minnesota Detroit or any other area game and you will see plenty of Bears fans. In fact I would say it was a 50-50 split when I went to Cincinnati for the Bears game. I fell like the amount of people is irrevlvant because look at the Packers in Green Bay. As much as I hate Packer fans they are die hards like Bears fans are and travel well just like us. We are die hards and go to the game and support our team and im sure if we only had 1m people near where the Bears play we would still sell out JMO.

I know all of that. I think it's fairly obvious that when you have 100+ years of history, and your from a huge city then you're going to get fans spread out around the country.

People do move out of Chicago, and they move out of Chicago at a higher rate than people move out of Indy. It's just numbers game.

NY/Boston has fans all over the country too.

I would never call Chicago fans "fairweathered." The Cubs haven't won a WS in how long now, but yet they have a huge following. A huge obnoxious following.

I agree that Chicago fans are not fair-weathered. The Cubs alone are proof of that.

They are obnoxious as hell, though.
