What? You mean tank? Preposterous, sir! PREPOSTEROUS!

...I kid. Luck would be nice though. I think the Colts have enough talent to avoid getting the worst record though.

I just want to make sure before I drop him from my fantasy team.

ESPN says he had "level 1 neck fusion surgery" today.

I'm not exactly an orthopedist, but NECK FUSION? That sounds terrifyingly career ending-y.

In other news, the Colts signed Deandre McDaniel, undrafted S outta Clemson.

In college he got arrested for throwing his girlfriend down the stairs. It's kinda poetic really.

I think it depends on where its at. A c1 is different from a C7 fusion. IT looks like most are C5-6 or C6-c7.

I really don't see any reason to bring Peyton back this season. I think it would be rushing it and there is no reason to rush it.

Andrew Luck would be wonderful but I think the Colts have enough talent to not get the top pick. I do think they could be picking top 5 and at the least in the top 10.

Now would be a good time for the NBA to end this lockout so Conseco has a chance to fill up. The last thing I want to do is watch the Colts in decline without seeing the Pacers rising.

    Colts official Statement:
    http://www.colts.com/news-and-events...f-f8ef4073cad4

As previously stated on Monday, Sept. 5th, Peyton Manning has undergone further testing and consultation with several specialists regarding his rehabilitation. The results of these tests and the consensus of the consultations was that further surgery was warranted. Peyton has undergone this surgery today by having a single level anterior fusion. The surgery was un-eventful.

This procedure is performed regularly throughout the country on persons from all walks of life, including professional football players. Two former Colts players had this same procedure last winter and have fully resumed their careers. Rehabilitation from such surgery is typically an involved process. Therefore, there will be no estimation of a return date at this time. We will keep Peyton on the active roster until we have a clearer picture of his recovery process.

Peyton will immediately begin the rehabilitation regimen mapped out by the surgeon. We anticipate no further updates or availabilities beyond those required by the NFL Media Policy for the immediate future.

    Thank you for your consideration.

Larry is not coming back, he didn't have a meeting with Orlando for not reason, yeah he is coming back to the NBA but not to the Pacers, the notion that he is a taking a year off and then come back is absurd.

I think Manning will be back if we are still in it. If it looks like we are out of it by the time Manning can play, I would rather Peyton just sit out the year to make sure he'll be 100% healthy come next year.

    http://www.aaos.org/news/aaosnow/nov10/clinical2.asp

In examining “Outcomes following nonoperative and operative treatment for cervical disk herniations in NFL athletes,” Dr. Hsu found that players who were treated surgically had higher return-to-play rates and longer careers than those who were treated nonsurgically. He presented the results of his retrospective cohort study at the North American Spine Society 2010 annual meeting.

Nearly 3 out of 4 (72 percent) of NFL players who were treated surgically for CDH returned to play and continued to play in an average of 29.3 games over a 2.8-year period after surgery. In contrast, less than half (46 percent) of those treated nonsurgically returned to play; those who did played an average of 14.7 games over a 1.5-year period before retiring.

After treatment for CDH, players in general had lower performance scores and started fewer games than they had before their injury. But, noted Dr. Hsu, this difference was not statistically significant.

I'll take that as good news if Peyton trully had CDH and not some other neck injury.

Thats funny I was just looking at the same article. http://www.orthosupersite.com/view.aspx?rid=66722#jump

I would tend to think that the spinal fusion would only help the recovery not worsen the chances of him coming back.

Yeah, clearly having neck surgery's never a good thing but this seems like it could be more of a career saver than a career ender.

Just realized all those records he was going to shatter are probably safe now.

Fusion of the vertebrae means that they removed the herniated disk. The bones have to fully fuse before he can do anything. The colts are going to probably keep him active hoping he can come back and then place him on IR late in the season realizing that it's not worth jeopardizing his career and to say the least any hope to sell more season tickets.

He has got to be a lot more fragile after this surgery than before. That medical report did not indicate the general success of these operations only that those who don't have surgery are worse off.

We will no doubt be drafting a QB next spring.

Ugh.....just read an article on SI.com that this is the same injury/surgery that ended Sterling Sharpe's career. The doctor in the article says think of the spine like a chain, and you welded two links together in the middle. Peyton's range of motion will never be the same. Man I'm glad they got a Super Bowl ring.
