Afaflava looks really good from the safety spot. Big guy and tackling with force.
Looks like good depth on the defensive line.
Hughes really showing something from the DE spot.
Probably keep Painter over Orlovsky. So keep three QBs

Taj Smith has made some great to fantastic catches. He may replace Gonazalez.
If you can't play almost always they have to keep someone else. Look no further than Sanders for evidence.

Uhhhh....maybe Orlovsky has taken Painters spot. Keep experience over youth.
    Nice drive by the Colts.

    Good thread.

More seriously, Orlovsky looks good, though I don't know if he is going up against 3rd-4th string or what. Taj Smith had a good game. What school is he from?

With Orlovsky he has more experience than Painter and he looks capable of running an offense. Smith is from Syracuse as an UDFA
Orlovsky is playing with bakcups against backups or certainly not starters

Personally, I think Orlovsky has looked better than Painter consistently...while playing with more scrubs/backups and getting much worse protection from his O-line. He's also had a couple perfect deep throws dropped by Taj Smith in two different games.

Even in the GB game, Painter was still short hopping and underthrowing open WRs on out routes. The Wayne TD was a gift. He also does not inspire confidence from the standpoint of leading the offense. Orlovsky in my view showed more moxie and appeared to command attention in the huddle far better.

Ultimately, we're talking about the 3rd string here, so I don't care that much. I don't have anything against Painter. I just think Orlovsky honestly outperformed him this preseason and deserves to make the team.

    Additionally,

I would be not at all sorry to see Donald Brown go. I think Addai, Carter, J. James and WCHS kid all looked better than him. However, of that group, Brown's is the best, and arguably only one, in terms of breakaway speed.

Hughes has to be on the bubble I would think. It's true he looked very active on Thurs., but I think his overall preseason was poor.

I can see him sticking due to his athleticism and one more year to progress. On the other hand, he appears absolutely useless against the run - even more so than our DEs tend to be normally. The there's the question whether he can have any impact pass rushing against starter-caliber OLs.

I get that we like smaller more agile and athletic DEs, but hughes looks like a tweener who's can't quite pull off DE, but isn't quite capable of LB either. Mathis is the quintessential guy who can pull it off even though his size/body is more in line with traditional linebacker mold.

Interested to see what the final roster will hold on all the border - line types.
