To change the subject....#49 Chip Vaughn had two bone-headed penalties that cost the colts the game (yea in know its just preseason). Jim Caldwell was fuming. Wouldn't be surprised if dude gets cut.
And the walls came tumbling down.....

Jim Caldwell kept up his stupid time outs policy. Icing the kicker in a pre season game? This could be a long season.

I don't really consider it stupid at all. In fact, most people in our section were calling for him to try and ice the kicker.

    * Jim Caldwell is an idiot for not seeing that onside kick coming.

    * You can't block Dwight Freeney 1 v 1. Not possible.

    * Our D-Line looked insanely good.

    * Jacob Lacey is absolutely terrible (If he starts in the regular season, we're screwed).

    * Ernie Simms looked good in his first game.

    * Drake Nevis is still REALLY impressing me

    * Tommie Harris is a beast (Yea, I can see his knees look really bad....)

    * Curtis Painter actually looked decent after the first quarter

    * Delone Carter is going to be a beast.

    * Ryan Diem actually looked pretty good at Guard.

    * Anthony Castonzo is really improving on a weekly basis.

    * Joe Lefeged continues to impress me at Safety.

    * David Gilreath really does have a lot of potential as a return man. I hope he makes it.

    * Oh, and Chip Vaughn is an idiot. He was likely getting cut anyways, but that just sealed it.

If Tommie Harris played as a 3 down warrior like he did back in the day yes his knees are ****ed. He is still a good player he just cant play as much as he use to and needs rest. If he was your only DT you guys would be ****ed. It is cool though the Bears might have one of the best DT rotations in football and one of the best DLines we go 5 deep at DT and all pretty good.

Ill take Amobi Okoye over this version of Harris any day plus having Henry Melton who is a beast along with Anthony Adams starting and Matt Toeaina and Stephen Paea is just insane depth Okoye is 4th or 5th string DT and has had 2 sacks in limited play in the preseason. Luckily Melton and Okoye can play outside or we would have to make trades.

But it doesnt matter how good our DL is our FO neglected our two biggest needs. We have the worst OL in the NFL and one of the worst secondary's in the NFL. Tim Jennings is terrible and we are starting Major Wright basically a rookie at FS. We will suck this year unless our DL plays at a HOF level and a miracle happens and our OL plays well.

You what I wrote about Tommie in the preseason thread. Tommie is great until he gets overused.

Yes, having one DT on the roster would make us f***ed.

Fortunately, we don't need him to be a "3 down warrior". He's doing just fine in the role we have him in, and he's not playing that many downs at all and he's still coming away with tipped passes and a sack.

If he gets hurt, so be it. Injuries happen. I won't take it as "the curse of Tommie" or anything like that. It's a physical sport. And right now it doesn't appear to me as if his knees are shot. Maybe they are, but they sure don't look like it. Anyways, he's not a 3 down DT for us, which works perfectly.

I meant as the one DT I meant primary and playing every down.

His knees are ****ed but he can play through pain pretty well. His explosion is nothing like it was back in the day.

He is great if you keep him fresh that is what I said when you signed him. I said he would be good as a 1 down DT or as a rotation DT. The problem with Tommie is he refused to accept that role last year in Chicago. Glad he is humbled and accepts that role now. But I also figured he would be your starter and would have to play a lot. But Drake Nevis changes his role IMO and that is great for the Colts. Tommie is still one of my favorite players and I will always root for him to be a beast. Back in 06 and when he was 100% healthy he was like Suh at DT a force and probably the best DT that year IMO.

Worst stat of the night Jacob Lacey 10 tackles, lol

We were playing way too far off their Wr's all they had to do was hook routes and ate us up all game, we were playing off so far that they even had room to get decent YAC once the catch was made... we are really going to have to change that if we want to ever have decent coverage...

That's why we got Drake, Fili, and Mookie.

Finally someone who realizes how valuable Harris can be for us.

He's in the perfect position. We don't need him 3 downs. We need him basically one down. And when he was getting that kind of rotation last night, in his first game with Freeney as well, he was dominant.

He and Nevis were making Freeney's job a lot easier by actually getting some push off the LOS. Freeney had 2 sacks, could've had 4.

Agreed. Mathis didn't even play hardly.

On passing downs, when we have Freeney, Harris, Nevis, and Mathis, that's going to be one of the best pass rushes, if not the best, we've ever had.

Part of that is from the defense running with 3 deep coverages, funny how everyone thinks that the Colts run cover 2, but they're calling a lot of cover 3 and 1's for Bullitt or Bethea roam or play in the box.

I'm more excited about the D-line than I think I ever have been. Freeney was an absolute beast in the Green Bay game and that was without Mathis on the other side for the most part. If Harris and Nevis can pressure like they did the defense will be much better.

Yeah, I will say I never played CB but it seems that they could still run 2 deep coverages and closer up on the receivers even 2 to 3 yds. I just believe it is a coaching and system issue. I get the bend don't break idea but man they really need to consider bending a little more b/c QB's will eat that stuff up all season...
