Jesus Christ, B1G officiating is horrible. IU getting royally screwed in second half.

Agree with the first part, not with the second. If anything, the refs are responsible for IU having the lead. Once again though, they are taking over. ****ing garbage. For the life of me, I can't fathom why Big Ten officiating is so bad.

IU had 4 or 5 horrible calls go against them, consecutively. Brought Illinois back into this game.

Yeah, but look at the free throw disparity. I've seen a lot of questionable calls--both ways.

That is the best (overall) game I have ever seen Jordan Hulls play.

I gotta say I hadn't noticed it til Gus/the NBA scouts, apparently mentioned it last night, but Hulls does do an incredible job of keeping his dribble. He's a sneaky good ball handler. He kind of lulls his defender to sleep and then is making really quick, snappy crossovers. He and Yogi next year could be one of the best offensive backcourts in the country. They may struggle defensively but that is what you have Remy, Oladipo, and Patterson for.

Regarding the officials, Illinois got what they were sewing for most of the game which was a lot of pull up jumpers and stuff away from the paint, that isn't gonna result in free throws. Even though Meyes Leonard had his shove on Cody at half court (which BTW WTF was that? I know Leonard is apparently butthurt from all the times Cody took it to him when they were in high school, but that was pretty uncalled for), anyway, outside of that shove at half court, Leonard was not looking for contact the way Cody was. He was going away from the rim on most of his stuff unless he got the ball literally right under the hoop. Cody, meanwhile, probably played the most physical game we've seen from him this season other than a stretch against UK and the Ohio State game.

Anyway, I just thought the only time the refs were really bad was a stretch where they called a bunch of ticky tack stuff on us on the perimeter and then followed that up by doing the same to Illinois. The first 7 fouls of the second half were earned by the Illini, they weren't playing smart.

I know nobody here wants to hear it, but Cody Zeller would easily be a lottery pick in this coming draft. It's certainly possible he'll return to IU but it's not going to be an easy decision.

I just think he still has too many moments where he can't establish his position in the post. Regardless, I think his family will encourage him to take at least 2 years at IU, plus I can't imagine him not wanting to play at least one year with the 2012 class. He's a big reason that class came together the way it did.

I agree with the bolded part. All signs point to him coming back.

But the establishing post position thing is pretty inconsequential as far as his NBA potential is concerned. I have very little doubt that he'd be a lottery pick if he declared. His age/size/skill combination makes him a lock.

Quite a few players have passed up the draft but even to somebody who loves the college experience and education as it appears that Cody does, it's a very difficult decision to pass up a guarantee like that.

Yeah, he would absolutely be a lottery pick if he declared. I don't think there's any question about that.

The Zellers value education. Tyler would have been a top 20 pick after last season but came back to finish his degree. Cody will do the same.

Just imagine how good Cody will be next year or the year after. He will be unstoppable. A team can win a title around a player like Cody Zeller.

God I wish this team that we watched these past two games could go back and play those Nebraska and Minnesota games. We'd be right in the thick of the title hunt.

True, but I'll settle for this team staying this team for the rest of the year. No more serious regression please. One swoon was enough.

Again, just making the tourney is HUGE progress for this team. It would take an epic failure for me to really say they've regressed in any way. I know you mean in terms of the season itself, not the last few years, but bigger picture: I keep reminding myself of that. This team looked hopeless even one year ago. Now, it can play with the big boys (although not consistently).

Did Crean tell Hulls to not shoot in this game? Oladipo to not dunk? Did this team not prepare for a 1-3-1 zone at all?

This makes zero sense to me. IU is making this game way more complicated than it needs to be.

Well, we won. NW's no slouch, but still not particularly impressive. But, again, we get to 20. We won't be able to do this coast along, keep it close and hope to win it in the last 5 minutes act at Iowa, though.

Pretty disappointed with how lost Hulls seemed to be against that 1-3-1, just didn't look like he was ready for that game for some reason. Maybe he's a little fatigued or something, but there were huge gaps in that zone.

You really think he's staying 4 years? That would be insane.

He can get a degree any time.

Games like that remind you that a Jordan Hulls who doesn't shoot is pretty much just Daniel Moore.

I was applauding Hulls all season wrong for learning to finally stop picking up his dribble so far out, as he had his first two years. And then against a 1-3-1 zone, he goes back to picking up his dribble. So frustrating.

Odd Abel got no burn. Crean didn't trust him against that zone, I take it?

Yeah, I have no idea why Remy didn't play...

Yeah, Hulls has been great this year about keeping his dribble, dunno what happened last night. Maybe he wasn't feeling 100%? Who knows. He only had one play that really stuck out on that bounce pass to Oladipo, granted it was a great pass.

Purely hypothetical and I estimate there is approximately 0% chance this happens, but if IU wins out (including the B1G tournament), can they get a 1 seed in the tournament? Currently we are teetering around a 3/4 seed, and a win streak that big at the end of the season, winning the best conference in the nation's tournament, and holding the most marquee win in the country (over juggernaut UK)...it just might do it. Kinda fun to think about.

I dunno about a 1. I'm still taking this one game at a time. Winning @Iowa and @Minny is very important.

NC State is looking like a better and better win. I wish more people would give us credit for that road win. 18-8 and 7-4 in the ACC for them, a likely tourney team at this point. I wish they could have hung on against Duke tonight.
