I want to know what the hell's wrong with these guys all of the sudden. It's like the wind has been taken out of their collective sails.

Has a team ever started 15-1 and failed to make the tournament before?

The way we're playing right now, we may not even get to 20 wins. Inconceivable.

This x 1,000,000. What the **** happened? What is going on? Is this going to be like the last three years where Crean's teams just give up midway through B1G play? I don't care, for the sake of my belongings, I'm done watching them for a few games.

It's a lot easier to get up for the big games when they only come every other week or so.

In conference play, every game is a big game. Much harder to maintain the intensity necessary on a night-in, night-out basis.

It shows a lack of mental toughness, more than anything, in my opinion.

This is the first year where I feel like it's really, truly fair to question Crean's coaching. I could buy the talent discrepancy the past few years, but IU is now lightyears better than Nebraska, and reasonably better than Minnesota. If the team can't get up to play those teams, can't stay mentally-focused, it's on the coach.

Yeah, I agree. They blew a ****ing 11 point lead with 6 minutes to go against a garbage team. I don't give a **** if it's on the road, that shouldn't be ****ing happening. Bunch of ****ing ****ies.

The thing is, prior to the Penn State game, this was one of the most consistent teams I'd ever seen. Now, they still are consistent...consistently bad.

It has nothing to do with "getting up for the big games." Just ask OSU.

It kills me that Abell couldn't even get in this game. I mean, does Crean really think senior/elder leadership is everything? Cuz VJ3 and Watford are two of the worst leaders on this team. What reason can he possibly have for keeping Abell tethered to the bench and feeding VJ3 monster minutes? It makes no sense to me. He's blindly labeled to guys who either suck or aren't even trying.

OSU is a better team though. That game couldn't have been less surprising considering the first one.

    Minnesota and Nebraska are not.

Verdell is terrible and has been for a long time. I cringe whenever he touches the ball.

What really hurts is the sudden downfall of Watford and Oladipo.

Yes, OSU is better but we were never even in that game. We should and could have at least been competitive.

Loss vs. PSU and we're in Def-Con 5 territory.

The combo of the cupcake schedule (minus 2 big wins) early and questions about Crean's coaching dating to pre-IU tenure, really does focus this squarely on TC.

This is dumb...I know this game has no effect on my day-to-day life. I have not met these players and coaches, will never meet them. It's just a game. There are way more important things in life, etc etc.

But damn do I want to punch a hole through a wall right now. I was quivering in rage for a good while. Why does a dumb bball game do this to me? Am I really that invested in my alma mater?!

Well, it's tough when it looks like a 15 - 1 start plus two huge upset wins (upset being the key word) is being revealed as possibly a big illusion. We are in the throes of potential disillusionment with this group and the start. Either, at some point soon, they learn, get tough, and adapt or they will truly embarrass themselves.

No more coddling from Crean. Time for tough love with these guys. Shake up the status quo. For god's sake get Remy into games more, let him drive to the hoop (his one truly plus skill right now) and play defense. Do something. Lay into the team. Make them run sprints. Lose your temper. Toss a chair in practice.

And if Hulls hits that layup... kicks out to an open player who hits his shot... or even hits that circus shot heave at the end does that change the conversation???

Let's face it... IU was never as good as Kentucky or OSU and most of the rest of the wins were cupcakes. Not to say IU hasn't improved but they still aren't there yet. The top 10 ranking maybe was deserved due to the upsets and overall record, but never a position they were going to maintain. And those big wins were upsets. They call 'em upsets for a reason.

Crean is probably going to have to make a tough decision about Verdell. The team has simply passed him by and yet they aren't good enough to cover for him. Roth has elevated his game to carve out a role and hang with the others... but Verdell is a turnover and bad decision machine. I realize Crean would like to reward Verdell for coming to Indiana and working hard with this down team but OTOH, he's got a team in a downward spiral. Mentally I'm sure they are questioning themselves at this point. They simply have to have their best players on the court now.

And Hulls needs to hit his damned FT's.... Talk about law of averages catching up to someone....

I don't believe the 15-1 start was an illusion. The team we've seen since then is completely different. I think it's more mental than anything. I just don't know why the sudden change.

I don't think it was an illusion... I'm just saying the team has weaknesses and they are being taken seriously now (nobody is overlooking them). Plus they should be better scouted. And teams should have plenty video to see what does and doesn't work defensively against the Hoosiers and figure out how they can do it too. ...and how to attack the Hoosiers.

The Hoosiers need to adjust. ...and they aren't really top 10 material so they aren't going to coast thru the Big 10 schedule. They are going to have to fight and claw and they'll be getting everyone's best shot too. So for one thing, Hulls needs to hit his FT's in crunch time.... Watford needs to re-energize.... and Verdell needs to have his minutes reduced (a lot IMHO).

the squad has been playing some terrible basketball lately no doubt.
from what i have seen, the biggest problems are from these guys:

oladipo- this guy has been laying an egg every game for quite a while actually. minn, osu, neb all were games where he has be getting faked out on D by going for every pump fake. his offense has disappeared too. his shot selection has been terrible. from out of control drives that end up turning into charges or just turnovers to not being able to hit from outside anymore. he has been making more than his share of careless turnovers. this is costing the team.

watford- this guy has really been mailing it in as well. from effort that often seems questionable to horrible shot selection, he needs to get his **** together quick.
in nearly every game since kentucky, he seems to have fallen in love with chucking up horrible, unnecessary 3 pointers. i think he wants to be the hero in every game now with that damn shot. he did this again against neb. in the 2nd half when there was around 20 seconds left on a play and absolutely no need for that shot but, he took it anyway. he keeps this crap up, crean needs to pull him for a while and explain to him if he does that ****, he will be benched.

hulls- yes, jordy has been doing this as well. i don't doubt his effort, i do doubt his decision making along with his shooting that has been going down the toilet lately. like watford, he too has been chucking up unnecessary 3's with plenty of time and his decision to go by himself against neb. in the final play was awful. this team needs a point guard and he hasn't been looking like a capable one for a while now.

no question about it- the team's best player is by far cody zeller. he comes ready to play every game. he still needs to improve on quite a few things however, at least he is reliable.

While the competition has increased significantly, I think our best shot to reclaim some of our mojo is a recommitment to intensity on D. Early, including some of the big upset wins, we created offensive energy off our defense. I don't get the sense the same consistent effort is being put forth on that end of the floor. That obviously includes rebounding.
