Thread: Indiana University Athletics Thread 2011-2012

We've said plenty about VJ3 and Watford being bad last few games, but Oladipo has been equally atrocious.

This is too hard to watch. I'm too invested. NFL for a while.

I'm rolling with it a little longer since I've got NFC playoff recording. But I'm not at all optimistic. Looks like men v. boys out there right now.

Defense shows up and the offense takes a big dump in the first half. What can you do.

Time to start thinking about Nebraska. That game is suddenly looking like a must win because of our loss to Minnesota.

Up to the Michigan game, I had tremendous confidence in this team to give it their all. Now? It's almost like the last three seasons again.

    happened?

Not entirely fair tonight. I expected Ohio State to beat the stuffing out of us. They are a final 4 team that has been upset twice already and one of those times was by us, they're pissed and out to send a message. We are not a top 10 team and never were, we will settle in close to around the 20 spot this season and that is where we should be. Ohio State is just in a different class than us, and when you combine all the elements that went into this game (us beating OSU, OSU losing their game before this, and the large talent gap between the two teams) it's no wonder that their pounding us to a fine pulp right now.

Minnesota was a desperate team that we may have underestimated, but the OSU game is not surprising to me. I would have expected this even if we had beaten Minny.

I just can't get upset right now, this team is still way ahead of schedule and our recruiting class next year addresses many of our needs.

Desperately need this guy, right now our best slasher with the ball is either Jones shoving his butt into someone hoping he can spin off them or the occasional highlight crossover from Oladipo. Not good enough.

Oh look, it's our offense! What up buddy? Missed you in the first half. Blargh. I guess we now know how Duke felt.

While I love watching this team and its heart, it would be nice to have adequate interior players besides Cody so that we don't live and die by jacking up 3's as the first offensive option.

Looks like teams have figured out to pressure the wings and take away the 3's... as well as use that pressure to disrupt passes into the post. So IU's counters with rushed 3's and forced shots. And it looks like it's working well... So, does Crean have a way to adjust?

Yeah, NE is now a must win I'd say, if you want to stay in the race for a top 4 finish in B1G. Not to mention avoiding a potential downward spiral. As good as we've been overall, this is a tenuous time. Our first real challenge of the season really.

This was always a loss. I just don't know what you do. In order to play any perimeter defense on this team, Verdell, Sheehey and Oladipo need to be on the court at all times. Hulls is a huge defensive liability. But with those three, you've got Oladipo turning the ball over 10M times and going way too fast, and Verdell being Verdell. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Doesn't help that the interior is really soft too. Zeller is a frosh, understandable. Watford gives an effort when he feels like it, which hasn't been for the last week or so, unfortunately.

It's just that neither Watford nor Zeller are physical inside guys. Right now we're talking finesse bigs. Then on top of that there's no legit inside depth, particularly again in terms of true bangers. That said, I agree that Watford has hit a motivational lull again. Also, I could care less if we didn't see VJIII again. I don't even think he's living up to the supposed defensive strengths.

I think Zeller has show he's more than just a finesse guy IMO. It's just about getting him the ball in right spots, his biggest problem is he lets himself get fronted too easily and needs to learn to keep guys on his back.

Hopefully this week will prove to be a rebound stretch with Nebraska and PSU. No reason IU should lose either game. Back on track to being a tourney team.

Though if they somehow lose both, I'd venture to guess they may not be a tourney team. Seems highly unlikely, as I'd still say they're top 25 in the country...just perhaps more on the 20-25 end.

Way too early to start worrying about dropping out of the tourney. We still have the best pair of wins in the country.

It would take a monumental collapse for us to fall out of the tourney. Whoever said anything about that is silly.

We're 11th in the AP poll still. Beat PSU and Nebraska and we likely pop right back into the top 10. Can't underestimate the UK and OSU wins.

I'm a little surprised we didn't fall further in both polls. I was expecting to be in the 15-18 range. We need to bounce back this week in a big way. Two very winnable games. Come out and make a statement.

Agree on all accounts. I don't think we're in tourney jeopardy at this point, but lay an egg this coming week and we will be at a crisis point of sorts - more or less undoing all the hard work so far this season. So, this is a very important slate of games regardless.
