Looking at a early prediction by maybe Doug Gotlee or however you spell his name he had us as the 40th team in the tourney, this was on the 15th, I guess it kind of surprised me a bit but I am happy to hear that though.
    Why so SERIOUS

I think DJ Byrd just took a big dump on your tourney hopes.

Why? He's 21. He drank too much. That isn't going to hurt the team much.

And not that it matters but I think the entire idea of a public intoxication charge on a college campus is completely ridiculous. They could arrest every kid coming out of any bar after midnight.

"A student got into LewJack's face and started talking crap to him, so Byrd stepped in and pushed the idiot back sticking up for a fellow teammate."

That's from a post on Rivals (doesn't mean much, I know), but it sounds like the guy was a student who was there possibly. I know he was with Rob and Barlow too. I am disappointed for sure, but not really mad at him or any thing. Assuming something like that actually did happen anyway.

I don't disagree, but I think Painter will still have to sit him down for a couple games.

The arrest of Purdue University basketball standout David Jonathan "D.J" Byrd stemmed from a disturbance at Where Else Bar involving teammate Kelsey Barlow, police confirmed this afternoon.

Damn, a couple good games and its not "basketball player" but "basketball standout."

Painter should suspend them all for going to Where Else. That place blows.

Huh. I find it funny that the WLaf police spokesman makes a point of saying it was a State Trooper who made the arrest ("Hey, it's not our fault!")

Timing could be better, because a win on Sunday could punch our ticket. But big picture it's no big deal.

Looking at the standings, I'd be shocked if the NCAA only took 5 BigTen teams. IMO, 20 wins should do it, which means Nebraska, Penn State, and then probably one of them again in Indy (if we lose one of those then we don't deserve a seed, plain and simple.) Another win would then be against a ranked team, and would lock us in.

Kinda weird the police mention Barlow by name in a statement but the other guys there (Hummel) are "unidentified." Sure he's a space cadet, but just seems unfair to Barlow, he didn't get charged with anything.

Speaking of, Barlow's not at practice today. Kid was already on thin ice. Thinking it could be it for him.

^That would be harsh: Byrd is the one who gets arrested and Barlow gets kicked off the team...

Just speculating for sure, but I've gotta assume Barlow's on something close to a zero tolerance policy. If he'd been told to stay outta the bars or something...

Supposedly Barlow was kicked out or asked to leave, but forgot his wallet. That's when teammates came and then allegedly Byrd got into with a bouncer or something.

"This is an unfortunate situation, but we will move forward as a program," Painter said. "We expect our student-athletes to live up to a high standard, and when their actions become detrimental to the program, there are consequences."

Very, very disappointed. Glad it was handled well though. Very sad to see Kelsey go, but he had to.

Lots of things wrong with this.

First, this gives Painter a built-in excuse for the forthcoming NIT/NCAA flameout, just as the suspension did last year. Also, the suspension punishes the whole team (again for the 2nd year in a row).

What is the 0 tolerance policy? No bars? No drinking? (was it really Barlow's 21st?) No being with someone who gets arrested?

If it is s/thing like no bars/drinking, (a) that is unrealistic (b) that is setting yourself up for the inevitable failure, especially with a known "space cadet" like Barlow (c) it makes you question what the teammates were doing out with him at bars--not taking the policy seriously? If not, why wasn't it clear that Painter was serious? If it wasn't clear that he was serious, did he just kick Barlow off of the team because a "scrappy favorite" (ie Byrd) made the news?

How is it going to look in recruiting that Painter kicks guys of for s/thing like this?

The Where Else bouncers (who can be Dicks) and the damn IU fan state trooper get some blame too.

    Yes, and Byrd and Barlow.

Well this got ugly pretty quickly...

EDIT: Are you really blaming this on the state trooper being an IU fan? Hilarious.
