painter needs to step it up...he's being paid like a top 10 coach, time to coach (and recruit) like one...a 2-3 zone shouldn't baffle a team this bad, early in the season or no...

Not to worried about the play so far, I think Painter is just trying to see what works best in actual games compared to practice, as well as which lineups work.

I think the addition of Anthony Johnson has done wonders for the team, another scorer is always a good thing.

Bigs did not really show up much this game on the offensive side, but I think they have the ability, at least from what I saw in earlier games.

I would love to see Kelsey drive it in more often instead of settling for the 3.

One more thing, Lawson's crazy athleticism is why he is not redshirting, he will be one of those guys that makes people question their shot when driving in, big plus.

When you pride yourself on running a classic motion and never deviating but you don't screen off the ball or have a big that can flash to the FT line, you're not running a motion.

I'm all for discipline and structure in an offense, but when it's not working you've got to have a fall back, at least against a team like High Point. I very much like Lewis Jackson's game, but he's a senior that's 5'9 in heels, in 4 years the kid can't develop a consistent jumper to punish teams for sagging off him to try and stop his dribble drive? He's a deadly weapon that's never going to happen. That was an embarrassing display and Purdue should have lost that game. Good luck chucking 30 3s a night when you're playing actual teams, Jim O'Brien'd be proud.

You guys are really going to miss Johnson's defense down low. No reason Iona (although I think the Gaels are pretty good) should drop 50 points in a half on you. No reason whatsoever.

That was Kelsey's best shot of the game, but his overall play has been extremely questionable. It does not seem like he is mentally in the game, missed lay ups, bad shots.

Also Johnson not being there will hurt, but I think that we just have been having a lot of mismatches, they are much stronger than us down low, and they are also hitting a bunch of shots.

Not sure how of that will change this year but we have to get better in team defense, especially help defense.

can't see the game, but how is it looking? box score tells a sad story...at the rate marcius and carroll are going, we might as well have kept Bade around...

He has not redshirted yet, but the game is crazy, IONA is a good team, and purdue is trying but IONA really is a good scoring team.

Barlow is the big difference I think, oh well this will probably be a lose for us, but we will see.

Seems like a lot of running and shooting and not much defense. Purdue has the ball down by 2 with 33.6 seconds left

Barlow's stat line looks good but his play at times shows much different.

Big 3 by Hummel, I bet he is happy to have that feeling of making go ahead shots with time running down.

Big Ten front courts might have a field day on you guys if Carroll doesn't drastically improve.

I think Sandi will be more of the defensive presence that we are looking for, he just needs to learn how not to foul first.

It ought to be interesting today against Temple. It will be quite a change from running and gunning against Iona to playing Temple's zone.

I've actually had pretty low expectations for this team from the beginning. Without Hummel they'd be one of the 3-4 worst teams in the Big 10. Given my expectations, I've been pleasantly surprised by the results, especially yesterday's against Iona. I'd guess that Iona would be a middle of the pack team in the Big 10 this season, so I'm not going to complain.

What I've noticed so far is that this team lacks really good individual defenders and is not playing good enough team defense to make up for it. In the starting 5, only Jackson and Barlow can physically keep up with their men, and they're both very inconsistent mentally. Lawson is the only shotblocker on the roster. The defense worked against a far less talented team in NI, but both High Point and Iona had some pretty talented individuals who were able to beat there man and score pretty regularly. Still, even with the deficiencies, if they were making FT's neither of those games would have been in question at the end like they were.

One thing that I'm happy about so far is that Anthony Johnson looks like the best recruit since the Hummel class. Lawson looks like he'll be a player to once he learns an offensive skill other than jumping. Sadly, he's been our best defensive big so far.

Temple will be interesting and a much better preview of the Big 10 season. It'll be interesting to play a team with legitimate size and see how they hold up.

Robbie played 35 minutes yesterday. They've been handling him with kid gloves, but this will be his first time this season playing games on consecutive days. We'll really need him to win this game.
