"Under the Dome" by Stephen King

I just read "Full Dark, No Stars" by Stephen King.

I usually try to read some good fiction during my semester breaks.

Last Book Read: A Dance With Dragons - George R. R. Martin. The best fantasy writer of all time, although this book was a little short on resolution and plot development.

Currently reading: Point Made: How to Write Like the Nation's Top Advocates - Ross Guberman. This is actually a fun read for me. This guy went through thousands of briefs written by folks like John Roberts, Eric Holder, and Seth Waxman and pulled excepts from some of their best works.

License to Pawn: deals, steals and my life at the gold & silver by Rick Harrison

    (yes, the Pawn star guy).

Pretty decent book, a little to much self praise over intellegence but overall well worth reading if you like non-fiction business type stuff.

LOL, you don't say? I like the show, but that guy seems to be an arrogant ***. If I was fat and bald and still had a good looking wife I might be the same way.

I have been reading biographies lately. Theodore Roosevelt, FDR, Abraham Lincoln, now onto George Washington. I think it's pretty obvious where my interests lie

Don't ask Marvin Harrison what he did during the bye week. "Batman never told where the Bat Cave is," he explained.

A Short History of Nearly Everything - Bill Bryson

Nerdy enough for you? (Actually, it's not that nerdy, even if it is a lot of science and history of science. It's relatively easy to read.)

Also on my nightstand is One Up On Wall Street by Peter Lynch (not yet started), a collection of Warren Buffett's letters to shareholders (partially read), and (to the surprise of probably nobody) Doyle Brunson's Super System: A Course in Power Poker (read more than once).

(I think Steven Hawking's A Brief History of Time is probably still up there, too.)

I just finished an older Carl Hiaasen book, Skin Tight. If you haven't read any Hiaasen, you should. He's great. Some of the most oddball characters ever put on paper.

About 2/3 in "A Game of Thrones". It's remarkable how close the director of the TV serie has stayed to the book so far. Thoroughly enjoying it so far.

Finished "Congo". Great, great book that describes the story leading up to the creation, the creation itself and the evolution/history of the Congo until basically last year.

I couldn't get past the first book. Didn't really seem that interesting to me. However, the show is amazing! Might have to give the first book another read.

Last book I read was, "A Wise Man's Fear" by Patrick Rothfuss. 2nd book in the series, and he's another author that takes his time churning out the next book. Might be 5 years till we get the 3rd. Ugh!!

Can't wait for the last book in the Wheel of Time series. Oh joy! Hopefully next year.

Working through A Feast For Crows, which admittedly isn't nearly as good (or as much fun) as A Storm Of Swords but I still love spending time in the world, and I'm looking forward to starting Dragons.

When I need to take a break, I've been reading The Wave about rogue waves and big wave surfing. It's a light read (even though it's about life and death situations a lot of the time) so it's good for not thinking too hard.

I'm currently reading The Last Days of Socrates (Euthyphro, The Apology, Crito, Phaedo) by Plato. I just finished The Moor by Laurie R. King and earlier this month I read The Sandman graphic novel series by Neil Gaiman.

It's been a busy reading year. So far in 2011, I've finished 88 books; they've kept me sane these long months. I love books.

You lucky duck! Five plus years ago I tore through books at that kind of rate. Now there just isn't the time. If I could increase my lifespan significantly I would undoubtedly spend much of it reading.

Speaking of Octavia Butler (in a later post) - have you read the Xenogenesis series (aka Lilith's Brook)? It's her finest work, in my opinion - particularly the first book.
"Freedom is nothing else but a chance to be better." - Albert Camus

"Appreciation is a wonderful thing. It makes what is excellent in others belong to us as well." - Voltaire

"Everyone's values are defined by what they will tolerate when it is done to others." - William Greider

I was job hunting for three months in there, so that gave me more time than most to read. I ended up with 115 read for the year. Now that I'm gainfully employed again, my reading has dropped off considerably.

I haven't read the Xenogenesis books, but I will put it on the 'to-read' list. Thanks for the suggestion!

    egyptian book of the dead

read the gilgamesh epic earlier today, and boy was that way more weird and more "arty" than I ever expected. I was left actually wishing there was more to it. Found myself reading the translator's notes because I was just that taken up with it.

Kinda into reading all these really old epics or religous texts. I'll probably try the koran after book of the dead.
