Thread: Paul George and Jonathon Bender played in streetball tourney with Tracy McGrady

Default Paul George and Jonathon Bender played in streetball tourney with Tracy McGrady

So far, McGrady's team consists of free agents Chuck Hayes and Jermaine Taylor, who both played with McGrady when he was with the Rockets, Paul George of the Indiana Pacers, and former pro Jonathan Bender, who last played in the NBA in 2010 for the New York Knicks. McGrady, who played with the Detroit Pistons this past season and is currently a free agent, is by no means considering his team the favorite.

Old news, but didn't see this posted anywhere!

Good to see Paul George working hard and playing, and hopefully he is friends with McGrady so he can learn a few from him.

    Jonathon Bender sighting as well!

    Late news but thoughts?

I find it funny that T-Mac played with two guys (George, Bender) that have been compared to him.

I think PG tweeted a while ago that he was pissed he didn't get to play with TMac. So either his plans changed or he was put on a different team.

Hopefully this turns into a good friendship. In his prime, McGrady was such a beast. And I think we all see at least a little bit of TMac in PG24.

If McGrady's work ethic is even half as poor as perceived I sure hope it doesn't.

Where? Seriously. Other than both of them being long and lanky how do they compare? The comparison has never made sense to me.

I see a similar flow to their games, both can shoot and attack the basket, both have, well McGrady had in his younger days, great athletic ability.

And about his work ethic, I don't really care because the man was nearly unstoppable and we already see that PG has a great work ethic. If Paul has the chance to work with McGrady he better take it as he can become a much better offensive player because of it.

Love me some PG, but he and McGrady are in different universes when comparing offensive abilities. In his heyday, TMac was unstoppable.

A lot of people here are going to be really disappointed if PG doesn't reach superstar levels, I hope he does but I won't be disappointed if his ceiling is Trevor Arisa.

TMAC really didn't turn into TMAC till a bit later in his career.

Ariza is who Paul George has always reminded me of. In fact I was watching highlights of the best dunks of the 2010 NBA season and they show a dunk that I thought was Paul George until I realized it was Ariza in the Hornets alternate yellow jersey.

Larry is not coming back, he didn't have a meeting with Orlando for not reason, yeah he is coming back to the NBA but not to the Pacers, the notion that he is a taking a year off and then come back is absurd.

I think his ceiling's a lot closer to Ariza with a conscience than McGrady.

I think he can be a better offensive player than ariza, but defensively they play similarly and ariza was an absolute terror earlier in his career on that end. Paul has a better natural jumper than ariza does, and can become a better ball handler, which will make him quite a bit better than trevor in the end, but they aren't totally incomparable in some of the things they can do.

I wouldn't completely dismiss t-mac comparisons though, tracy was a defensive specialist in toronto, and didn't really bloom on the other end until he was traded. What paul doesn't have though is T-macs passing ability, which was absolutely prodigous in his prime, he can still play point guard reliably (he was impressive at that spot for a burnt out guy last year) paul doesn't have that kind of vision, but he has the potential to do alot of the other thigns t-mac could, I just hope he doesn't lose defensive intensity as his offensive role grows.

Agreed on mostly everything, except I think Paul DOES have pretty good vision. He just doesn't know how to properly execute the passes. If that makes any sense.

I saw Paul make some awesome passes last season.

He was a pretty good player for having a "poor" work ethic. I wish that I could put forth half an effort, and make millions of dollars.

Paul has decent vision, but Mcgrady's was incredible, its a have or don't have kind of thing.

I don't see PG being quite the scorer that TMac was in his prime, but if he can work on his handles, he should be a pretty good offensive player to go along with his already exceptional defense.

I can see the comparison between TMac and PG, but TMac and Bender?

Maybe Bender and KG....but I don't see the similarities...other then both being Players that were drafted out of high school.
Ash from Army of Darkness: Good...Bad...I'm the guy with the gun.

This is David West, he is the Honey Badger, West just doesn't give a *****....he's pretty bad *ss cuz he has no regard for any other Player or Team whatsoever.

I think TMac's become the go to comp for any really young wing that's really athletic and shows flashes of brilliance. Like Bird for any white guy over 6'2.

It doesn't really matter to me if he becomes T-Mac type of player. If he can make his name as the "First PG", then so much the better. I just want him to further hone his defense to be able to guard the likes of Rose, and improve his offense and can be a reliable scorer beside Danny. If he be an elite passer, then great. But I just expect more of tight defense and reliable offense from him as he goes further in the league.
