Default Will someone PLEASE get us Chris Paul!!!!

FIrst off, the Pacers are in need of an "actual" star. No offense to Granger, but he is a #2 guy at best. CP3 DOES NOT want to play in New Orleans. He would fit well in the Pacers' system, and we could unload some dead cap weight onto New Orleans. Even if we have to get rid of Granger, I would like to see this happen. Chris Paul is an amazing talent, and he needs a young team to be the leader of. Please help me understand why Bird wouldn't even consider this as an option.

Never said he wouldn't, but he NEVER considers the big moves, unlike the successful GMs

What would it take to get him here though. Granger + what?

I want Chris Paul like how the Nets got Deron Williams.
In 49 states it's just basketball, but this is Indiana!

We dont have the assets for that they had like 5 extra draft picks(and they were high value picks)

it would have to be something like DC+PG+Posey+ Roy+ 1st rd pick

That would probably be as close to fair value as they could get IMO really tough to get fair value for a star like CP3.

NJ gave up a lot they gave up an all star Harris the #3 overall pick in Favors the #3 overall pick this year/ and another pick That is a dream package(if you have to trade your star).

Posey wouldn't be needed when we have cap room.

Larry Bird is a huge fan of CP3, though. I'd make all but Paul George and Roy Hibbert available...idk if N.O. would want to take back Darren Collison in trade--it's sort of rare to see players traded right back to where they just came from, but I do assume it could happen. Darren would be an excellent back-up for CP3, though, obviously. I wouldn't mind if we gave up Danny in a packaged deal for CP3.

Doesn't CP3 have to sign off on where he is traded? I'm not sure if he does that with Indy.

    I wouldn't mind something like:

DC/George/Hibbert/Posey/Picks for CP3/Ariza (not sure about the salaries)

That would give us CP3/Ariza/Granger/Hansbrough/FA Center

No way this ever happens though.

Why throw everything at NO when we could wait for CP3 to become a FA? We really shouldn't be emulating the lack of patience that the Knicks ownership had in getting Carmelo.... They gave up WAY TOO MUCH.

There is no way CP3 would come here in free agency. It'd be virtually a lateral move competition-wise, and a downgrade city-wise.

I'd argue that it's a later move city wise and an upgrade competition wise. Indy (when we have a great basketball team) has great fan support and is a great city. Also, we are not strapped down by bad contracts like NO.

As far as competition, with CP3, we would automatically become at top5 team in the East, where as NO struggles to make it higher than 8 with him.

CP3 has 2 more years with the 2nd year being a player option.
    2011/12 - 16.4mil and 2012/13 - 17.8mil.

Now if CP3 wouldn't want to play for us, then why even try to get him.
Throw away everything Pacers do have for 1 year of CP3? You can't force him to stay after this coming year. We would be gifting New Orleans, because they can't keep him but this coming year either. He simply flies to where he wants to go.

Sorry to inform you of this very highly doubtful, nearly impossible, not ever gonna happen trade.

You assume to know too much.

I'm sure he probably considers them, but he never considers them a benefit to the team as a whole, or in the long run. Big moves are never easy to make. Besides that, I'd consider where were were 3 years ago when he took over to where we stand today in flexibility, quality youth, and opportunities to improve this team ... being successful. Even without a 'big move'.

We didn't have the pieces to make a 'big move' anyway. I doubt anyone was going to let us dump Dunleavy/Ford/Murphy and a late lottery pick on them for a superstar. The only way we made a big move would have been trading Granger, and even then, we're more than likely breaking even. Nobody is going to give up Chris Paul for Danny Granger.

I would be happy with either Deron or Chris...

I can't wait until 2012.... Bynum, Paul, Williams all unrestricted... with plenty of others that are restricted... That is when our money could really come in to play... With Dallas getting the championship I wonder if this makes Chandler more enticed to stay and try to win another, or since his stock is high, try to get as much money as possible...

I think he would have to be one of the only players that we should be interested in throwing big money at this year... Not sure if he would be as productive in the 4 position, but if George can get his 3 going and we could have

DC/George/Granger/Chandler/Hibbert... that would be a good line up, strong down low, and guys who can stretch the floor as well as drive penetrate. which would also allow for us to install Tyler at the 4 and move chandler to the 5 at times. Really would be good for this team...

Might even entice Deron or Chris to give us a look in 2012... I think that could turnout to be a championship contending team actually...

As people have said before, this current Pacers team is constructed to be a championship contending team , we just don't have that one (or 2 is fine with me) superstar.

This big market vs small market, nice weather vs bad weather stuff is very overrated IMO. Players will still get endorsements anywhere they go. Paul has gotten plenty in small market NO. ( also Lebron in cleveland) .

Any player can spend their summer out of state or in Cali or Miami. And if a player is wanting to start a family, Indiana is a great place to do so.

The only thing that really matters is WINNING. If the same Pacers team we saw take the #1 seeded Chicago Bulls to the brink of collapsing, shows up everynight next season, we are going to set ourselves up to be an attractive destination

Indiana has never been big in getting star free agents, because Indiana hasn't wanted to.

I don't know about that... seems kind of like a stretch to say they haven't wanted to...

But def think winning matters as well as money and location...

Depending on who the player is different things will matter more, for Lebron it was %100 winning, for Carmelo it was %40money and %30 location 30%winning, I think Melo thinks he will be able to win wherever.

For Dwight I think it is 20% location and 70% winning with 10% money.

No matter what the case is I just hope that we can put together a good team that can contend for a championship which ever way we do it.
