Thread: If you can't beat em: Heat join Mavs title party

Well, it looks like Dampier (Former Mav who didn't play) and some scrubs but still:

    Heat Partied with Mavs.

Well, this is awkward. After the Dallas Mavericks won their first NBA title in franchise history, owner Mark Cuban reportedly spent $110,000 on drinks at their post-championship party.

The drinks weren't just purchased for members of the winning team, however. According to multiple reports, several Heat players were in attendance at Liv Nightclub in the Fontainebleau hotel.

ESPN 790 AM reported the rumor on Monday and Mavs.com writer Earl K. Snead tweeted that it was true.

Later on Monday, Snead tweeted that Miami's Erick Dampier was one of the Heat players partying with the Mavericks.

If the rumor really is true, then the Heat must have had fun because the Mavericks sure know how to party. Mavs star Dirk Nowitzki, who won the Finals MVP award, celebrated with a gigantic bottle of champagne.

To be fair, Dampier did play for the Mavs for a number of seasons.

So you mean to tell me not one person took a pic of said Heat players? In this day and age?

They probably know they were going to get cut anyways might as well see if you can latch onto another team.

    If true of course.

Cuban actually showed some restraint, I expected that bill to be even more.

I think it's safe to say none of those Heat players will be back in Miami next season. I'm willing to bet they were all free agents.

That would be pretty awkward to see the guys you were just playing against at your party. It would be even more awkward if they were having a great time, clearly showing that they didn't care they lost.

Dampier seems to be the only player named and in his case he spent many seasons in Dallas where he actually contributed some. He was probably happy for his friends who won.

I don't see anything wrong in his case. Other players I would definitely be a little mad at as a Heat fan, but Dampjer gets the exception for me.

I can understand Dampier being there also, but the article above says "several players" so who do you think the other party crashers were? Are they just saying "several players" to try and sensationalize the story, or should we assume that there really were others there besides Damp?

Dampier I can definitely understand. Non-story at best.

I think a lot of people aren't really Sports fans or this wouldn't be a big deal. It seems a lot of people today want to hate the opposition.

What happened to being a good sport whether you win or lose? Now days it seems people are the opposite of that!

I don't see much problem. I can understand how people can be upset about this because it kind of makes it seem like they didn't care all that much, but for me it is a whatever. It also doesn't really give much context to what those players were actually doing. For all we know they just went to humbly congratulate the Mavs, and just kind of mingled instead of partying and such. Also many NBA players are friends with players on other teams, so it really shouldn't be all that unexpected especially if they were already in town.

What if it was everyone BUT the "big three"? What kind of statement would that make?

Since in all likelihood it was a bunch of people they won't retain anyways it's not a big deal but it still is kind of embarassing. It doesn't really surprise me that team had a bunch of Gollum's (ring chasers) on it.

    Yes.

IIRC Dampier was inactive for the playoffs and is a free agent now that the season is over. Would you rather sit in the Heat locker room and cry or go party with big $$$ Mark Cuban?

I don't know that much about this & frankly I don't care that much either. However I do want to point out that there is a big differance between being a good sport and actually celebrating with the opposition.

Shake hands, say good game = equals good sport.

This I'm not sure say's good sport or bad team mate.

Is he a free agent, sure. Did he spend years with the Mavs, sure. Did he take the Heat's money to be a member of their team this season, sure did.

Like I said I don't really care but I don't think you can equate this to being a good or bad sport.
