Default UPDATED: Boycott the BBall HOF in support of Mel and Slick

I, being a true Pacers fan, promise to abstain from visiting the Basketball Hall of Fame until such time that Mel Daniels and Slick Leonard are both members.

    Hmm...

    Mel

    3x ABA Champ
    2x ABA MVP
    ABA ROTY
    7x ABA All Star
    4x All-ABA First Team
    1x All-ABA Second Team
    18.4 ppg
    14.9 rpg

Those are pretty impressive for any time period. I think Slick has a better shot at getting in though because of his ties with the organization on the radio and coaching.

I'd be happy for either, not just because they both deserve it but because my ice skates retail store in Hell would finally get some business.

If we're just talking about their playing careers and ABA accomplishments, I'd have to pick Mel. However, Slick has a good chance to get in as a contributor for his accomplishments in broadcasting.

Larry is not coming back, he didn't have a meeting with Orlando for not reason, yeah he is coming back to the NBA but not to the Pacers, the notion that he is a taking a year off and then come back is absurd.

For performance on the court, Mel.

For overall comtributions to furthering basketball as a sport, easily Slick.

Ostensibly Slick, because there's more to his career than the ABA, which the Hall sadly doesn't give jack **** about. Won a title in college and played for one in the NBA, which is all Mullin apparently needed.

Sadly though, the real is answer is neither, because the Hall is a bunch of ****ing morons. Otherwise both would have been in a quarter century ago.

Who is a decent comparison to Mel Daniels in today's NBA? He seems like a more talented version of Al Jefferson. Considering everything, I always thought of him as a Karl Malone level talent or pretty close to that.

Martin you little buzzard... I'm saying Slick because he was the leader during probably the best Pacers era, he helped the Pacers stay in Indiana, and his career still continues to succeed a million years later. Plus he is basically THE Pacers icon, besides Reggie, and I'm a Pacers homer. Get Mel in the next HOF.

I'll make this bold prediction. Al Jefferson won't ever win a MVP award, let alone two.

To put it into perspective, that's more than Shaq has.

Does Mel Daniels belong in the HOF? - I don't have the slightest idea - have never seen him play and I'll keep to my decision to not judge players I have enever seen play.

Honestly - I don't really care about the HOF. just never interest me

Well, counting MVPs is like a distant cousin of counting rings to me when you compare players, especially from different eras. Putting the awards aside, I can see Al Jefferson doing very well if you transported him 40 years into the past with his size and skills. He'd probably be a damned good center. Possibly award-worthy.

Mel has one less ABA MVP (2) than Dr. J did (3) and I believe the HOF needs to recognize not only the advancments to the game that developed in the ABA but also the players and coaches accomplishments. I didn't see Mel play, but his jersey isn't retired for no reason. I think that fans could support Mel and Slick with a public campaign. Would a petition be allowed at Pacers games? Would Fatheads of Mel and Slick be permitted with the captions of "Slick/Mel for HOF!"? Would the Pacers be allowed to campaign for this?

I did see him play and I think he belongs. I think Rajah belongs. I think Slick belongs.

The HoF at least has a supposed "ABA Committee" now, but they still seem biased toward players who ended their careers in the NBA.

the HOF is a joke, and lost its credibility by not letting Reggie in.

I'm not trying to really compare them, I'm trying to show his level of influence on the game of basketball.

It's the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, not the NBA Hall of Fame.

I mean, Bob Hurley (Bobby Hurley's dad) is in HOF'er, and he's a high school coach, along with 13 referees, and many many other coaches who have never even coached in the States.

If it's going to be all-inclusive, then there's no way Mel Daniels and/or Slick shouldn't be in.

The basketball hall of fame is the worst of the three major sports, anyways.

What do you mean not letting Reggie in.

Am I wrong? I thought the voters vote on who should be in and if a player has enough votes they get in if they don't then they don't get in.
