Donald Jones accused of voluntary manslaughter in friend's killing during NBA Finals gameBy Justin Kendall, Thu., Jun. 2 2011 at 10:52 AM Categories: Killa City

Donald Jones: saddest mug shot ever.
Donald Jones told police that he "threw a knife" at his friend Ronald Oliver during an argument while the two watched game one of the NBA Finals (the Miami Heat beat the Dallas Mavericks) on Tuesday.

Police found Jones kneeling next to Oliver and holding a towel to Oliver's chest. But Oliver, 40, was already dead. On Wednesday, Jackson County prosecutors charged Jones, 41, with voluntary manslaughter and armed criminal action.

Jones and Oliver were watching the game at a home in the 3300 block of East 30th Street. They began to argue, and one of them went to the kitchen to get the knife "because it was relevant to the argument." Jones didn't recall stabbing Oliver but did say he'd thrown the knife at his friend. He said he'd pulled the knife out of Oliver's chest and tried to put pressure on the wound.

Oliver is Kansas City, Missouri's 38th homicide of 2011.

    Senseless.

I'm also appalled that the city I live in has had more murders to date (by 11) than the state of Missouri!

    Alcohol.
There are two types of quarterbacks in the league: Those whom over time, the league figures out ... and those who figure out the league.

    That's sick.

You watch sports and have fun and be civil about it.

Sounds like it was mostly an accident. Makes it no less tragic, though.

The article said he didn't remember stabbing him and that he wasn't sure who got the knife in the first place. It wasn't overtly stated, but I thought it implied drugs or alcohol were involved for him not to remember. Plus it seems like the two were friends.

I don't see any basketball discussion to be had here.
