It seemed to me that the die hard Bucks fans were more hospitable than the casuals there. The less Bucks apparel someone had on the douchier they were to us.

Probably my favorite part about the Milwaukee game was the folks who joined us. The girl who came up to us and told us that her and her friend were originally from Indy and had moved to Milwaukee and were still Pacers fans, and that they were sitting across the arena from us and heard us better than Squad 6 was awesome. She asked us if we did a "hundred point dance", to which we responded "what's a hundred point dance?" which of course is a dance when you get 100 points. We don't have one of those, but several of us did it that night. And the 2 guys who came over in the 4th were awesome too. They were so excited to be a part of us for one night. The one guy right after the game was saying he had to take something from this to remember it, and we all went out in the hall and took a picture with them. Good freakin times.

Once Brumback hooks me up with his new Video Editing/Capture program, this will be the song I use on my NEW Pacers video!
I love that song but it kind of killed it for me when I saw how much Squad 6 uses it. They play it at the beginning of the 3rd quarter and put up a flag for every international player on the team.

I kind of doubt we use it better than the soccer clubs that first started using it , but I do like the techno mashup we use as our pre-tip song, it works well.

Gentlemen....and Ladies if you're on here from AREA55.... question???? I kind of looked back in this thread to see your PTO times but wanted to make sure what is the usual the time. ????

Reason..... I'll be bringing a group of 8 Brazilian grad students to their first NBA game. They just arrived in this country at the begining of March and now that Leandro is part of the Pacers they're really excited to take in a game. We're planing to attend the game on Friday April 13th and I would like to make it as memorable as possible.... Simply I would like for this group to at least meet the craziest fans in the world and maybe a picture with you guys/gals if that's possible. Something they could send back to their families in Brazil.

    What do you think???

So, does a Brazilian gal "with a great personality" mean she's only beautiful by US standards?

I believe there has already been a discussion pertaining to Brazilian women on this board somewhere.... Lets just say since I'm married and should show respect to women in general I shouldn't comment.... but..... even if they had crappy personalities they would be fighting off the male species. My, my, my, how your school has changed my friend....

I suspect that the Washington game PTO will be very well attended.

BTW, Leandrihno's wife is Brazilian TV/Movie actress Samara Felippo and she's gorgeous.

AREA 55 NEWS YOU CAN TAKE TO THE BANK!!!

    Greetings again, fellow 55ers!

As most of you know, last night our guys reprised their occasional Jekyll-Hyde act and managed to find a way to lose to the likes of the New Jersey Nets.

Maybe in some respects this loss wasn’t too surprising. It was sort of a “trap game” – coming on the heels of a big road win at Milwaukee, and an even bigger win at home over the South Beach LeBrons. Accordingly, maybe a bit of a let-down was understandable.

Still, in the mathematics of an NBA Playoff quest, wins and losses count exactly the same. A blowout win over the lowly Nets carries the precisely the same weight as a last-second squeaker over the proud Chicago Bulls. That’s why losses like last night’s hurt. The opportunity for a win was there and it was blown. That’s also why tonight’s game against the equally inferior Wizards is very important.

While shearing my whiskers this morning in my bathroom mirror, I got to thinking about the Pacers. I was thinking:

“Dammit! Why can’t these guys bring their A-game every night? How can they let themselves lose to a team like the Nets? Why can’t a master motivator like Frank Vogel get the guys up for a game like that? Why can’t they play like they did against Milwaukee and Miami every night? Don’t they understand the importance of what they’re doing out there?”

Then I started thinking about me. And about us – the motley populace of Area 55. Do I bring my A-game every day? At work? At home? When I’m up there in 101, supposedly doing my thing for Roy, do I always bring it? Do all of us always do our jobs in Area 55 every night -- night in and night out?

Nope. I can’t say that we do. Not always. Sometimes we let up. It's understandable. We’re human. Sometimes we get lazy and just coast. Sometimes we're tired, bored, or just not there. Sometimes we just go through the motions.

I guess there are life-lessons in everything -- in pro basketball, and in most other fields of human endeavor. When you’re a basketball millionaire, when you’re a celebrity fawned over every day by the plebs, when you’ve got your 6-bathroom mansion, a couple of Ferraris in your garage, and have a fashion model for a wife, you’re basically set for life, aren’t you?. So what’s left out there to fire your engines? What motivates a really great NBA player? A really great NBA team? What fires the Reggies, the Birds, the Magics, the Jordans? What fired the Lakers? The Celtics? The Bulls?

Maybe, it’s seeing every game as a chance to accomplish something really memorable. Maybe it’s always remembering that when you step onto the court you’re bringing with you the hopes and aspirations of the town you’re playing for. Maybe it’s being constantly aware that if you bring an NBA banner to Indy you’ll be giving a needed lift to the nameless multitude of average types that watch all your games on TV, that love you, and that want to see you do great things. Maybe it’s lifting the spirits of us peons – the not-so-rich, the little people that empty their wallets and bring our kids to your games in hopes of seeing you accomplish something awesome -- in hopes of seeing you play the game the way you can and the right way.

Maybe NBA adrenalin comes from a personal opportunity to be inspirational. Maybe it’s the competition, the chance to stand out and be admired by your peers. Maybe the motivation comes from being a part of a team, knowing that you have an important role to play and that if you don't play that role, you're letting the rest of the guys on your team down.

Maybe the fire comes from a devotion to the game itself -- the recognition that basketball can be artful and crazy-beautiful, and that you owe it to the game to play it the right way.

So much for NBA motivation. On to us:

I don’t know what fires you, 55ers. But whatever it is, tonight, let’s try to bring it. Let’s try to do our thing the right way – like we did in Milwaukee, like we did against Miami. Let’s really, really try to create an atmosphere in BLF that induces a climate of excellence that brings out the best in our guys - that makes us too a small part of something great.

Let's make a pledge. No undue socializing or farting around, tonight. No standing silently watching while the rest cheer. No chewing nachos while cheers are going on. Let's come down together and get compact. Let's be in unison on our cheers. No let ups tonight just because this appears to be just another ho-hum Pacers game against a weak and inferior team.

Let’s go home hoarse. Let’s bring it. Like the Pacers, we need to take care of our own business in BLF too.

Tickets! Tickets! Ticket Guru, Kyle Krol tells me by email that our April ticket allotment will be distributed in 101 by Pacers Suit, Dave Hanley, tonight at the top of the stairs as we filter in for the opening and also at half-time. Those of you that can’t make it to the game tonight should contact Kyle or Dave and they’ll see to it that they’re mailed to you.

Also, those of you who want to buy additional Area 55 Tix for your lunatic buddies, go to the Area 55 Website on pacers.com (it’s a hyperlink on the lower left of the webpage) and you can purchase to your heart’s content!

PTO! The Brazilians Are Coming! I have it on good authority that a bunch of Brazilians will be showing up at the Nameless Lot across the street from Arby’s (at the Northeast corner of South Street and Pennsylvania). Apparently they love their Leandrinho (Lee-an-dreen’-yo) and will possibly be bearing a flag. Supposedly a couple of these Brazilians are women that are easy on the eye.

Accordingly, Pacers lovers and Brazilian women lovers alike are encouraged to bring their beery butts pre-game to check it all out.

PTO Vice-Prez and GM Casey O’Brien will be on hand as well. Casey will be giving out autographed pictures (in full color and suitable for framing, I’m told!) from his recent appearance on the hit MSNBC prison reality show, “Lock Up!” To bolster lagging attendance at the PTOs, Casey has also promised to disrobe and show his wealth of prison tattoos.

Beer! Brazilian women! Prison tattoos! This could be interesting! Be there!

    FUN FACTS ABOUT WASHINGTON!

Dwight Howard Dunks on a Giraffe! No, this is not a Washington Wizards Fun Fact. However, in keeping with my practice of exposing Area 55 Newsletter’s readers to all of the weird, quirky, and arcane aspects of the NBA, I give you this:

Somewhere, in a gym in Tokyo, Japan, and to the delight of his fans, Dwight Howard dunked on a hoop attached to the upper reaches of a stuffed giraffe.

Yes, this is a must see. And here it is:

    http://tinyurl.com/72k6qyc

If you are like me, fellow 55ers, you can now die happy and content. You’ve seen Dwight Howard dunk on a stuffed giraffe in a Tokyo gym. You’ve truly seen it all.

Agent Zero Returns! For years, the Wizards were a pretty good basketball team powered largely by Gilbert Arenas, a player who has remained near and dear to my heart. Felled by a gun-in-a-locker room episode that netted him a felony charge and a long suspension from NBA Commish David Stern (who just permits owners to commit felonies, and not players), the Wizards were then sliced, diced, and dis-assembled and are now no longer a power in the NBA.

Gilbert served out his exile, was “amnestied,” and then wound up on the skids, moving on to a lackluster tenure with Orlando and then to seeming oblivion.

So, just for funsies, I googled “Where’s Gilbert Arenas now?” and, to my joy, learned that Gilbert recently was signed by the Memphis Grizzlies.

How did that happen? Well, a local Memphis sports radio type named Chris Vernon posted the following item in his blog:

“Quick story. When Gilbert Arenas was a rookie in Golden State, I walking into the Warrior locker room to say hello to Jason Richardson (whom I’d met at his workout for the Grizzlies). I was talking to Richardson when Arenas (who was sitting at his locker right next to us) says: ‘Chris Vernon!’ He appeared to be genuinely excited to see me. I said – ‘Hey Gilbert, how do you know who I am?’ He responded. ‘I don’t. I’m just reading your media pass.’” The goof was on me, but I’ve liked the guy ever since.

If the Grizzlies sign Gilbert Arenas, I’m all for it. When you hear me get upset over guys playing or the Grizzlies signing guys, it is because they can’t play. If Arenas can’t play and yet is getting a bunch of minutes, that would be a reason to be upset. My bet is that he can play.

A lot of people have asked if he could mess up the chemistry and my answer is that I’m not worried about that. Lionel Hollins is an empowered coach. He dealt with Allen Iverson and last year he dealt with Jason Williams being added to the team. I simply do not believe that Hollins would allow something to screw the team up.

Arenas was once one of the most likeable guys in the entire league. In between injuries and the horrible incident in the locker room in Washington his career really went downhill. I don’t think Arenas is a bad guy and his teammates always seem to love him. I’d love for him to get his career back on track in Memphis. If he can’t, Hollins will get rid of him. If he can, the Grizzlies will have a veteran back-up PG that can stretch the floor, guard big guards, and can hit big shots. I see very little risk with a possible fantastic reward.

    Hibachi!”
(Hibachi is another nickname Gilbert gave himself because, like a hibachi, he supposedly brings “instant heat” when he enters a game).

Anyway, Memphis GM Chris Wallace read Vernon’s blog on Gilbert, agreed with it, and signed him a week ago for a remaining season stint in Elvis-land.

I, for one, hope Gilbert’s sojourn in Memphis pans out. As Wallace smartly pointed out several times in his interview, this is the ultimate low-risk move for his Grizzlies, mainly because Arenas won't cost much, but also because the Grizzlies can be quick to dump the former All-Star if he doesn't work out. All it would do is put the Grizzlies exactly where they were last week before they signed him.

Well, gotta go do. As the Boy Scouts say, “Onward and Upward!” See y’all tonight!

    GO PACERS! GO AREA 55!
