    Default OT: Miracle

If you haven't seen this movie yet I encourage you to do so! Kurt Russell does a great job, as do the rest of the actors. It isn't too over the top, though a couple of liberties are taken with the story.

The best part of it though is the hockey action. It looks real. During the final game I was on the edge of my seat even though I knew how it turned out! The crowd in the theater was clapping when time ran out.

I saw it yesterday and I enjoyed it a lot except for what you just mentioned.

Why do people clap at movie theaters, especially for a movie that could not have been more predictable? I don't get it. Other than the stupid *** clapping, the movie was excellent, but still a notch below Remember the Titans.

It is a Walt-Disney movie. It seems like all their movies are a bit candy coated and for the kids. Yes, I felt the same for Remember the Titans. Does Miracle have this same "for the children" feel?

How can a movie be better than "Hoosiers"?

I will see it soon, as I'm a big hockey fan. I remember the night of the Russian game as if it was yesterday!

I put it behind Hoosiers, but then Hoosiers is about basketball.

Even though it was from Disney, I don't think it was "watered down" at all. There were afew younger kids there and they seemed bored until the final game. Very much in the same vein as Hoosiers.

As for the clapping after the win, I thought it was neat. If a moviee entertains you that much, then why not enjoy it?

According to the latest issue of Sports Illistrated, the story is very close. They even choriographed the hockey scenes to match the real ones.

Find the DVD or tape and watch it. Of course, growing up in Indiana makes it more special for some, but I'm sure you'll enjoy it. I'm sure someone would send you the disk, but I don't think the ones sold here work in Europe, do they?

I think "Hoosiers" has another name for the international version.

I will see if I can find that name for you.

Hey allready! Thx, would be great if you could look that up for me! Is there a download somewhere on the net, anyone?

I think that North America uses another DVD standard, yes, BUT I have also heard that there are ways around it.

So, someone wants to tell me just a little more about what EXACTLY it is about?

It's called "Best Shot" overseas because very few would know what a Hoosier is...

That other name is "Best Shot".
    http://dvd.onino.co.uk/dvd/best_shot_aka_hoosiers.html

There is a a summary and pic of the cover at the above site.

The story is loosely based on a real small school team in Indiana that challenged Goliath.

FWIW, ESPN Classic is hyping showing the REAL game and then broadcasting the rematch sometime this month. (Maybe Feb 21st).

The IHSAA should be forced to watch this movie.... over and over... until they come to their senses and do away with class basketball and bring back one tournament for all. ...JMHO...

The movie is based on the 1954 Milan Indians. A small high school team (with i believe 6 or 7 total players)that ends up beating Muncie Central for the state champs. I thinks it's very overrated and much the original names (including the school names) have been changed. The story also had to be altered to be more interesting. ed:

Hey, I got to say that the cast looks promissing!

I think I saw a trailer quite sometime ago once! I think I will just order it!

Anyone seen "Any Given Sunday"? Love that movie. I think you need to have seen it more than once though.

ESPN has film of the real game? Can I get someone to record it for me? My dad played basketball at Milan about 6 years before the Miracle?

I don't think the movie is overrated at all... but that's just my opinion. It is somewhere between great and excellent .
Anyway.... while the Hickory Huskers are a fictional team most (if not all) of the schools they play in the movie are in fact real. Some no longer exist due to consolidation tho.

What movie writer could invent a town/team called the Oolitic Bearcats?
