Default Cavs, Pistons and T-Wolves discussing trade

    http://twitter.com/#!/Chris_Broussar...34555146657792

Cavs, Pistons, Twolves discussing 3-team trade that would give Cavs 1st & 2nd picks, sources say.

    http://twitter.com/#!/Chris_Broussar...35106957688832

Cavs absorb Rip Hamilton into 14.6 mill trade exception & get Det's 8th pick. Cavs send 4th & 8th picks to Minny for 2nd pick

    http://twitter.com/#!/Chris_Broussar...35403201368064

Cavs would then draft Kyrie No. 1 and Derrick Williams No. 2. Nothing imminent but trade us being discussed by the teams.

Great for Cavs, Decent for Minny, Bad for Detroit

    Holy ****.

Of course, hope it works out better than when the Colts had the first two picks.

[edit] Detroit would look pretty stupid if there's another Allan Houston rule in the next CBA. Still, the new owner would be saving $25M. Or $19M, after the reduction in pay.

hmm so you get pick #8 for taking on Rip Hamilton's contract?

Dumars has really made a mess of things in Detroit

    Irving/Rip/D.Williams/Hickson/Varejao...pretty sick.

Would Bird be willing to absorb Rip's 2 year/25 mil deal to get the 8 pick for free? I'd think about.

Nice deal for cavs. Of course Kahn can get 2 point guards now, I'm thinking Kemba and Jimmer. (half joking).

I don't think its all that bad for any of the teams, even Detroit. I mean really who do they lose out on? Kemba Walker?

Pay $25M for a chance at Kemba Walker or Tristan Thompson? No thanks.

There's a possibility that we'd get the #20 pick in the deal. If that's true, I'm ok with this. It's a crappy draft.

Depends on who's there at #8, and how much you think Rip has left in the tank

This would be a good deal for the Cavs. Getting the best players in this draft is not horrible.

it would also depend on how willing herb simon was to go over the luxury tax threshold. The cost to the pacers would be a lot more than the $25M. Pacers would have to pay tax on the extra $6 or $7M this years salary pushed them over the threshold and not get their share of the luxury tax money for this year.

On second thought, it doesn't matter. Unless the pacers have some way to absorb rip's contract, the pacers couldn't make the trade, since they are over the salary cap max.

Not really. They can just use it on cv31...

Couldn't we just do the trade after we have our cap room, theoretically?

The Pacers could do it, they'd just have to agree to not announce the trade until after our guys come off the cap. In other words, have Detroit pick for us and then consummate the trade after next years numbers kick in.

But that seems like a pretty steep price for the #8 pick.

I agree, it'd be an interesting risk to take though. It wouldn't be like absorbing Posey's contract, paying someone to sit on the bench the whole time. I think Rip could give us good backup minutes at the 2.

Ughh. In five years, they'd have the most dominant front court in the NBA with love being the best offensive big and Bismack being the most defensive and with both being able to do the other quite adequately. (hopes I didn't confuse anyone)

Default Re: Cavs, Pistons and T-Wolves discussing trade

Pretty hard to hate this deal for any of the three teams. I don't love it for any of them but I think every team would make a gain from the deal.

I think Minnesota must have a two guard in mind with the #8 pick. If the Wolves ended up drafting Kanter and someone like Alec Burks, wouldn't that be a better haul than getting Williams only? I also think the Wolves probably need to find a way to move Beasley while his value is relatively high so they can slide Wes Johnson down to the three, which is really where he should be playing. I would be happier with Ridnour/Burks/Johnson/Love/Kanter than Ridnour/Johnson/Williams/Beasley/Love, so the deal is a good one for the Wolves, even if it isn't sexy.

Cavs would be making a good deal because the picks of Irving and Williams would solidify the new era. A starting 5 of Irving/Hamilton/Williams/Hickson/Varejao with Baron Davis and Antawn Jamison on the bench looks way better than what they're trotting out there right now, so I think they should make this trade if it's on the table.

Pistons and Hamilton need a divorce, and if all it takes is the #8 pick in a mediocre draft, I think it's worth doing, especially if they get the #20 in return as Kstat indicated that they might.

It could make JJ Hickson available down the line, who I would like for the Pacers, big time. Also Cleveland would buyout Rip who would likely go to Chicago, post buyout.

    All according to Chad Ford.
