Default Mike Brown/Lakers in Serious Discussions. Update post #24 -Reports: Brown Lakers new coach

Per Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports:

"Y! Sources: Lakers, Mike Brown have entered into serious discussions about coaching job: tinyurl.com/4ybzdrc"

Cross Brown off our short list?

You have that wrong. The owner catered to Lebron and the owner undermined Brown and Ferry whenever they tried to stand-up to Lebron. When the owner does that it is not the coaches fault

We should have already met and offered the job to Brown over a week ago.

Who says we didn't? I kind of doubt it, but even if we had, it's not like Mike would just rush to us while he knew LA was a possibility. Looks like it could work out very well for him.

Being the Lakers' head coach > Being the Pacers' head coach.

I don't think we did. Heck a week ago bird had just had his latest presser where they asked him about Brown and Vogel, and rumor then was that they hadn't even reached out to the first interview for Vogel yet.

That's ok with me, I would still like to see Vogel a full year with a training camp and a full season to work with.

"serious discussions" = they are talking

Its normal for a coach of Brown's calibur to get multiple interviews , and any interview Im sure his agent will know inadvance that it is "serious"

The more I think about it , the more Im not sure Brown is the right coach for the Pacers. His strong suit might be working with the type of Ego like a LeBron or Kobe.

Not sure he could get the most out of our squad , and in fact Vogel is probably the stronger canidate in that area. Brown is also not that great an X and O coach as he has had questionable late game decisions. In fact the Cavs finish with the best record in the NBA and cant win the Championship. Of course thats not all on Brown

Defense, however, is where Brown shines and I think he would make the Pacers a top 10 defense by the end of his first year. I give him a strong edge over Vogel there

I want Rick Addleman, Vogel, Dwayne Cassey , or Jeff Van Gundy

There could be an agreement in place within the next 24-48 hours, sources say, but nothing has been finalized.

The two sides are working out issues that could be dealbreakers and cause the Lakers to go to another candidate, sources said, but there’s clearly momentum toward Brown becoming the next head coach.

It was unclear what was still standing between an agreement, but the Lakers have made it clear that they’ll move onto another candidate – possibly Rick Adelman, Mike Dunleavy or Shaw – should they be unable to come to an agreement on terms with Brown.

A close league friend told Yahoo! Sports, “He really wants this [the Lakers job] to happen.”

The Los Angeles Lakers are engaged in serious discussions with Mike Brown about the ex-Cleveland Cavaliers coach becoming the franchise’s next coach, league sources told Yahoo! Sports on Tuesday night.

The Lakers are focused on talks with Brown, who was fired in 2010 after five seasons in Cleveland, where he went 272-138.

Los Angeles had considered longtime assistant Brian Shaw, but the focus is now on Brown. There could be an agreement in place within the next 24-48 hours, sources say, but nothing has been finalized.

Lakers ownership doesn’t want to pay top salary for a coach anymore, and that could be a sticking point on a deal. The Warriors seem prepared to spend money for the coach they desire and Brown has been atop the franchise’s list for several weeks.

Brown led the Cavaliers to the 2007 NBA Finals, and won the Coach of the Year award in 2009. His Cavaliers teams were among the best defensive units in the league, which Lakers management seems determined to find in a replacement for Phil Jackson. Nevertheless, there were often criticisms of Brown’s offensive system. Brown had an up-and-down relationship with LeBron James, who appeared to lose faith in Brown near the end of their tenure together

This is a great pickup for LA. Much better than Dunleavy.

Hopefully this makes our list Vogel, and maybe Adelman. No one else.

I heard on the local news that they have put the coaching decision on hold for a bit to work on the draft more.

I don't blame Brown if he takes the Laker's job, but from what I heard, Indiana was very high on his list of places he wanted to interview with because his family is still based in Ohio and would have been a 30 min plane ride away.

I understand that they need to work on the draft but isn't the two headed monster supposed to make the job easier for them?

If this pans out, I have to expect Frank Vogel to be our next head coach.

I have my concerns about that, but I'm fine with it.

Here's to Frank never turning back into a pumpkin!

Yeah Brown sucks as a coach unless he's getting a good assistant I don't see why the Lakers think this is a good idea..

He couldn't control LeBron with no rings he's not going to get the respect of Kobe who has 5.

Then again it would be something if Kobe could actually win a title with Brown as coach something LeBron couldn't do.

His Son hired him not Jerry.. Jerry is giving control to his son as he's getting on in years..

Rather sexist of him since Jeanie is the one with any sense but she's a girl go figure.

I gueess this is where i would start.

Brian Windhorst: That said, Mike Brown is a lot smarter and better coach than he got credit for. Was too willing to take hits, even when it wasn't his fault Twitter

Los Angeles Lakers, Coaching, Mike Brown | share
Brian Windhorst: Mike made LeBron the defender he is today. He had the ability but not the understanding. Mike's a great defensive mind w/high character. Twitter

Yannis Koutroupis: I've talked with Gregg Popovich about Mike Brown before, nobody speaks higher of him. Popovich isn't one to give undeserving praise either. Twitter

    http://hoopshype.com/rumors.htm

Mike Brown Cant help that the FO let LBJ do what ever he pleased. The blame should go on Dan Glibert and the Cavs FO.

A head coach? He's not someone I think would command respect.. if Lebron could walk all over him you think Kobe would be different?

In that market with those expectations.. he'll get a pass in Cleveland.. LA is an entirely different beast.

I don't blame him for taking it I blame the Lakers for offering the position to him.

I think he's a great assistant coach especially on defense but head coach?

No I think he sucks. He got the most out of the Cavs but the Lakers he'll underachieve.
